I had to put one of my cats down today. He passed on at 5:47pm.
I only had him for about two weeks. I rescued him from a friends house when my friend up and moved to BC. The house was, and always has been, kind of gutter punk filthy and apparently the cats never got water enough and were eating shitty food.
He was the prettiest boy cat in the world

Because I waited too long assuming, because he had all the signs of it, that he had heat stroke his kidneys were too far gone to treat them. they couldn't even gauge the amount of toxins in his kidneys properly after diluting them down multiple times. Which is why we were so surprised he didn't show signs of illness earlier and that it only took 24 fucking hours for everything to happen, which was why the doctor said this was a pre-existing condition. I have a friend that is a vet and know 3 other people that work in vet clinics. The vets here are fucking hacks... they are in it for the money not because of anything else... which is why I ended up driving to Calgary to take blender to the fucking vet. The term FLUTD is a general one and covers many different urinary diseases so lets stop being so general here.
The current feeding recommendations for the prevention of struvite urolith formation:
1. Feed diets that promote the formation of urine that is acidic. Avoid supplementing such diets with additional urinary acidifiers, because over-acidification can cause metabolic acidosis, impaired kidney function, and mineral imbalance.
2. Restrict dietary magnesium intake to 40 milligrams per 100 kilocalories if acidic urine (pH of 6.4 or less) is maintained.
3. Feed small meals on a frequent basis or feed free-choice dry foods.
4. Provide clean, fresh water at all times.
5. Provide an adequate number of litter boxes, and keep them clean.
Oh and I worked in a vet clinic for 9 months with one of my good friends. So yea. Take your google and shove it.

I honestly did not want this to end up with us leaving nasty comments for each other.
I'm just super pissed that Eric and I were the one's heaped with the blame. Tom cats are extremely susceptible to these kinds of infections. Hell, I've seen pedigree, primped, coddled, organically fed bitch cats come in with this kind of thing.
I'm tired of playing the blame game. Goat was a wonderful cat, and to be honest, none of us noticed him being sick. The vet you took him to sounded like an ass. It's not my fault, or yours, or anyones.

It took a while for us to decide that it's not anyone's fault.
Had you taken the tie to listen to EVERYTHING e had to say that day instead of ONLY listening to the parts that made you feel like shit you would have known all of this though.
