Picspam: Casting The Wicked Lovely Series
I had so much fun doing Ink Exchange and I'm still reeling from all the fangirling and love I have for this incredible series that I decided to try and cast the rest of the characters of the Wicked Lovely series.
Candice Accola as DONIA
“I’m not the one you’re looking for.”
Donia is such a tragic character, the one that doesn't get chosen and the one that became the Winter Girl because she loved Keena so much, but wasn't his queen. She has to be the one that makes the tough decisions and despite being relatively new to all the faerie politics I think she is the most grounded and responsible of them all. After Leslie, Donia is my favorite WL girl. She's fierce and brave and yet there's this melancholy to her that makes me just want to hug her and wish she could be properly loved the way she deserves. If I was a director I would probably take a page out of Christopher Nolan's book and cast my favorite actors/actresses in all my movies. I think Candice is terribly talented and would be wonderful playing the cold, practical and yet romantic Winter Girl/Queen.
Summer Glau as AISLINN
Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries.
Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries.
Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention.
Casting Aislinn was a very difficult task and I was at first considering Minka Kelly because she's small and petite and Aislinn has been described as being able to almost fold up into herself and wraith-like. Then I was looking through my old tv show folder and saw firefly and that's when it hit me. Summer Glau would be the perfect Aislinn. She has this ethereal quality about her and can easily walk the line between being assertive and being terrified of the things she sees. Most of all Summer is a dancer and the Summer court is all about dancing and pleasure and fun and so I always thought that in order to be the embodiment of Summer, Aislinn has to be able to love all that and it makes sense if she was a dancer and that's how she would have attracted Keenan in the first place. I also wanted someone who could play vulnerability and fear well because for most of the first book, Aislinn is rather terrified of the faeries, she just wanted to blend in and stay away from them and I think Summer has portrayed that well as the damaged River Tam on Firefly.
Paul Wesley as KEENAN
"I've spent my life waiting for you."
Keenan is described as very charming and can be manipulative, but I think there's also this naivety to him in that he truly believes that his quest for the Summer Queen is a quest for his one true love. Therefore, Keenan has always been a romantic, brooding type to me and I thought Paul Wesley's Stefan Salvatore fit that bill quite perfectly. There's also this sort of vitality and summer/autumn look that I think Paul has that suits Keenan's character. I am also a major Stefan/Caroline shipper on the Vampire Diaries so I would love to see Candice and Paul act opposite one another in something else so this casting choice is kind of premeditated... Still! Doesn't negate the fact that Paul would be a wonderful Keenan. He's charismatic and has that whole mysterious guy thing going on which is definitely how Aislinn saw Keenan when they first met.
Gaspard Ulliel as SETH
"Not Expecting, but hoping. Always hoping."
By far the hardest character for me to cast and in the end I went with Gaspard because I liked his look. Sorry, I'm shallow. So sue me. Okay, please don't because I'm a poor college student. =P Anyways, I must confess that my choice for Seth is very much superficial because I actually have not seen Gaspard act in anything before. (Does someone want to recommend me something?) But I saw him being suggested for Gale in the Hunger Games and I was thinking to myself, "Damn this guy is smoking." And so I looked up more pictures and holy moly this guy is hot. I always thought Seth was a very calm, collected character and easily liked by almost everyone throughout the series. I wanted someone who looked like he can hold his own against badass faeries even though he's human and alluring enough that Aislinn would fall in love with him, but only after they were friends first. And so Gaspard seemed like a good fit in my imaginations and I thought he would look awesome starring alongside Summer.
So those are my casting choices for the main four in the Wicked Lovely series. I hope you enjoyed and let me know who YOU would cast! =)
