“I hate you. I REALLY hate you,” Kaoru said through clenched teeth as he stared at a smirking Toshiya. It was a nice day, and they were standing there, behind a tree in a park, hiding, much to Kaoru’s dismay, from Die. Kaoru lowered his head and laughed sarcastically to himself.
Never again will I tell my secrets to Toshiya, especially if I’m drunk and he’s not. The night before, the band had gone to a bar and, as usual, Kaoru and Die had loaded up on beer and began their usual ritual of randomly hitting on each other throughout the night. But he had had a little too much, and Toshiya had needed to escort him to a bathroom. There, he spent a record hour and a half pouring his heart out to Toshiya about how much he loved Die and pouring his stomach out to the toilet he was sitting in front of.
So, naturally, Toshiya and his scheming mind had been trying to get Kaoru to talk it out with Die when the got back to the hotel. It didn’t work; they were both still too drunk to think straight and ended up falling asleep on each other after having a long and thrilling discussion about light bulbs. They woke up the next morning remembering only snip-its of the night before, and with massive hangovers.
Now, Die was sitting on a park bench less than a hundred feet away, perfectly sober, and Toshiya had somehow convinced Kaoru to come with him and talk it out.
Maybe I was still drunk, he thought as he leaned up against the tree. He rubbed his head as Toshiya stepped toward him.
“Toshiya, I don’t want to do this,” he said, quickly glancing out at Die.
“But you PROMISED me, Kao-kao. You promised, you said you’d do it.” Toshiya had painted on a pathetic looking pouty expression. It was that look that Kaoru couldn’t say no to. “Besides, I’ll be there for a while to help you get situated.” Toshiya smiled a hopeful smile and took Kaoru’s hand, then dragged him out from behind the tree.
“Die-die! Hi!!!!!” Toshiya yelled energetically as he scrambled toward Die, dragging Kaoru helplessly behind him.
“I can walk by myself, thank you very much,” Kaoru said as he snatched his arm back from Toshiya.
“Yeah, but if I would have let you go back there, you would’ve run away.” Die looked up with a raised eyebrow as the guitarist and bassist continued arguing.
“Okay, you two. Break it up. I’m trying to write ideas for a song here, and it takes concentration.” Kaoru looked at Toshiya.
“See? It takes concentration. ALONE time. I’ll come back later.” Kaoru began to walk away, but Toshiya grabbed his collar and held him back.
“Oh, no you don’t. Die, can we sit with you?” Die nodded. Toshiya glanced at Kaoru and stuck out his tongue. They both sat down, sandwiching Die in between them.
There was a long moment of silence, then Toshiya got up and started walking away.
“Toshiya? Where are you going?” Kaoru whimpered.
“I told Shin-chan to meet me here. We were gonna go do something together. I’ll be back later.” Toshiya winked and walked away.
Yeah. Great job getting us situated, Totchi, Kaoru thought as he glanced at Die.
“So, what’s the song about?” Kaoru piped up after looking at Die for a few seconds.
“Well, lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about… love. Mushy, right?” Die almost stopped talking, but Kaoru kept listening. He laughed. “So, that’s what I’ve been writing. Mostly, you know, unrequited love.” He looked up to make sure Kaoru knew the meaning of the word; he didn’t. “Love that isn’t being returned.” Kaoru nodded and looked down. “Of course, it could be because I’m too much of a wuss to talk to him about it and he’s too scared to talk to me because he’s not one much for confrontation,” Die’s voice trailed off as he smirked. Kaoru followed his gaze off into the distance, and was surprised when he felt Die’s hand clutch his own. He looked over at Die who was still staring far off.
“Die?” Kaoru said. Die turned.
“Yeah?”
“I… I… can’t do this. I can’t do it! I’m too afraid of-“ Kaoru’s words were cut off by Die’s lips connecting with his. Die pulled back and looked down.
“If you don’t want to talk,” Die’s eyes flitted up to Kaoru’s, “we don’t have to.”
“Okay. Then, I really don’t want to talk.”
Die enveloped Kaoru in another kiss as Kaoru began to stroke his hair. This had been easier than he thought it would be.

Toshiya stood by a nearby tree, spying on Die and Kaoru. As they kissed, Toshiya slapped Shinya a high five.
“MISSION ACCOMPLISEHED!!”
