“Jesus Christ, Toshiya, there’s nothing in the God damn fridge! Why the hell don’t you keep it stocked?” Of course by nothing, Die meant no beer.
“Oh come on, Die-die! If you just want beer, I’m sorry. But if you actually mean there’s nothing, like “nothing” nothing, then I guess I’m just a lazy ass.” Die couldn’t see Toshiya from the kitchen, but he could tell he was smirking.
I guess I’ll have to settle for a soda, Die thought. He grabbed one and walked into the living room of Toshiya’s rather small house. He heard the TV and a screaming Kyo as he walked in.
“Get the HELL off of me, you INSANE SON OF A BITCH!” Kyo was going insane, and Die couldn’t help but laugh when he saw why. Toshiya was blowing in his ear, almost on top of him. Kaoru was sitting close by Toshiya, head in hands. Shinya was sitting in an armchair in the corner, giggling silently as he watched the chaos ensuing before him. Spotting Die, Shinya waved and called him over.
“Shin-chan, I think this is better than a movie, ne?” Die smiled. He and Shinya were in love, unbeknownst to any of the other band members, except maybe Toshiya. He plopped down on the floor right in front of Shinya and popped open his soda.
This really IS better than a movie, he thought as Toshiya made a flying leap toward Kyo.
“Oh, Kyonkichi, CATCH ME!”
“Get the FUCK OFF, you lunatic!”
True, this was quality entertainment, but throughout the entire thing, Die couldn’t help but notice Kaoru’s expression changing from enjoyment to a downright glare at Kyo. Was he…? No, Kaoru couldn’t be… jealous?
“Toshiya, you should probably leave Kyo alone. He looks about ready to strangle you.” Die threw a pillow at Toshiya and glanced at Kaoru.
“Hai, hai. Kao-kao, what about you? Will you catch me?” Toshiya quickly switched positions on the couch and turned to face Kaoru.
“I… need a drink,” Kaoru lied as he got up off the couch and walked swiftly out of the room. Toshiya turned to Die.
“What the hell was that about?”
“Dunno. Maybe you should talk to him?” Die said. Toshiya nodded and followed Kaoru out. Instead of the kitchen, Toshiya found him outside, sitting on the porch.
“Kao-kao, are you okay?” he said, sitting down next to Kaoru and staring out at the view. It was almost night; the sun was setting. It was beautiful.
“Toshiya, you just… don’t get it, do you?” Kaoru whispered facing the other way, making sure Toshiya didn’t see the blush he was sure was covering his cheeks.
“Kaoru, don’t get what?” Toshiya really had no idea what he was talking about. He put his hand on Kaoru’s back in an attempt to comfort him. Kaoru stood up and turned toward Toshiya.
“Just leave me the fuck alone right now, okay? When you get it, come see me.” Kaoru ran off the porch and back into the house. Toshiya flinched at the sound of the slamming door. He looked back out at the sunset.
“Get what?” Toshiya sighed as he walked back into the house.
~~~*~~~
Shinya, Die, and Kyo watched as Toshiya plopped himself onto the couch. Something was wrong; Toshiya wasn’t energetic.
“Totchi, what happened? We heard the door slam, is Kaoru okay?” Die asked from his spot in front of Shinya.
“He was on the porch… crying. He said I ‘didn’t GET something’… and whatever it is, I guess I don’t because I have no idea what the hell he’s talking about.” Toshiya sighed as Die and Shinya nodded. Kyo glanced up.
“Wait, Kaoru was crying? What a pussy,” Kyo smirked then looked back down at the magazine he had been reading before.
Bastard, Die thought.
“Maybe… I’ll go talk to him,” Shinya said.
“Really? You’d do that?” Toshiya was beaming.
“Yeah. Give me a few minutes, okay? I think I might know what’s up.” With that, Shinya rose and walked toward the door he had a feeling Kaoru was hiding behind.
I hope I’m right about this, he thought as he opened the door.
“Kaoru? Are you in here?” Shinya looked around and saw Kaoru sitting on the floor next to the toilet. He walked over.
“I thought I was gonna throw up…” he said with a slight drawl in his voice.
“Kaoru, what’s up with you and Toshiya?”
“I don’t want to talk about it.”
“Yes, you do.”
“No, I really think I don’t.” Kaoru stood up and walked toward the sink.
“Kaoru, do you… like him?” Shinya immediately regretted saying it.
“What the HELL makes you think that?!” Kaoru ran towards a now cowering Shinya. Shinya raised his index finger and started listing things in response to his question, ending with:
“And now, you’re blushing like mad.” He said this cowering farther into the corner. Given Kaoru’s mood, he was afraid he was going to hit him. Instead, Kaoru ran towards the mirror.
“Shit. My face matches Die’s hair.” He laughed at his own statement. “I guess he’s just really air headed sometimes; doesn’t get it that I like him, y’know? Kinda pisses me off.” Shinya nodded; that annoyed him about Toshiya, too.
“Ever think about just telling him?” Shinya looked hopeful.
“Hell no, are you crazy? I don’t know if he likes me back. If he rejected me…” Kaoru’s voice trailed off. Shinya could tell he was about to cry.
“Come out with me… to the living room. Come on, Kaoru.” Shinya gently grabbed the guitarist’s arm and started to lead him through the door.
“Shinya…” Shinya turned.
“Thanks.” Kaoru grabbed the drummer around the shoulders and gently planted a kiss on his cheek. Shinya couldn’t help but blush.
“I wonder if Shin-chan’s okay. I hope Kao-kao didn’t kill him… he looked mad.” Toshiya was sitting on the couch, legs crossed, his head in his hands. He sighed.
“Look, they’re out. And Shinya’s in one piece!” Die sounded ecstatic. Shinya beckoned him over and whispered something in his ear. Die looked at him with an understanding expression and nodded.
“Hey, Kyo. Come here for a minute. Help us… do… something… over there.” Die really sucked at making up excuses; everyone knew that, but for Kyo, that worked.
“Yeah, sure. Whatever.” Kyo stood and walked out of the room. Die and Shinya gave a quick wink to Kaoru, who rolled his eyes and turned to Toshiya.
“Listen, Totchi, I’m…” He glanced at Die and Shinya. They were still standing there.
“I thought you needed Kyo’s help with something.” Toshiya smiled innocently. Die and Shinya looked at each other. Were they still standing there?
“Oh, yeah. Sorry.” Die and Shinya hustled out of the room.
“Anyway, Toshiya, I’m so-”
“No… I wanna apologize first. I’m an idiot. I didn’t get it. While I was sitting out here with Die and Kyo, I realized it. When Die and Shinya were first getting together, I-“
“Wait. Die and Shinya are going out?” Kaoru looked shocked.
“Yeah! You didn’t know that?” Kaoru shook his head. “Heh… I guess not. Well, you do now!” Toshiya sang as he poked Kaoru’s nose playfully. “Anyway, I would tease Shin-chan a LOT and try to make Die-die jealous. And he’d usually storm out of the room like you did… and I was all over Kyonkichii…is it him you like? I’m sorry I made you jealous…”
Kaoru dropped his head. That little speech had had promise, but, as usual, Toshiya had come to an incorrect conclusion. He shook his head and laughed.
“Totchi, you really are an airhead.” Toshiya looked at Kaoru, a confused expression on his face. “It’s not Kyo I like… It’s YOU.”
Toshiya looked positively stunned.
“I… really?” Kaoru nodded. “Aww, Kao-kao, why didn’t you tell me? Hell, I’ve liked you since I started playing in this band. You were always my ‘kawaii Kao-kao’!”
Toshiya was off on a tangent again. So, Toshiya had always liked him? What a relief. Kaoru looked at Toshiya, who seemed to be mid-tangent. He grabbed him in a tight hug.
“Toshiya…?”
“Yeah, Kao-kao?”
“No offense, but shut the hell up.”
At this, Kaoru lightly planted a kiss on Toshiya’s lips. Toshiya smiled and kissed him back. This exchange lasted for a few minutes, until Kyo burst into the room.
"I forgot the fucking magazine…” he said as he caught sight of Kaoru and Toshiya, still very close together. “Oh Jesus Christ, not you two, too! I’m the only one who doesn’t have a fucking boyfriend in my band… Fine, I’ll go call up…” The last part of his statement was obscured by a slamming door, but Toshiya could have sworn he heard the words ‘orgy’ and ‘sex-fest’. He glanced at Kaoru, then back at the door.
“You know what, Kao-kao?”
“Huh?” He took a drink of soda.
“Kyo’s insane.”
Kaoru snorted into his drink. Toshiya was right there.
“You know what else, Kaoru?”
“What?”
“I love you.” Toshiya smiled his big, goofy grin, leaned in towards Kaoru and kissed him again. Kaoru leaned back.
“I love you, too.”
