Underage 30 year old
It recently got really hot, huh.
Weird, huh.
Man, I really hate it.
I get really sticky and my hair goes all frizzy
My guitar’s sound gets weird when it’s damp
The rainy season is terrible
But if I had so say one thing good
Ougon’s Carbonated Water became delicious.
My sacred water.
The other day
Well, actually about 2 months ago
For the first time in my life
I was in a situation where I couldn’t buy alcohol.
It was at a convenience store in Osaka.
(I think I was there for an event at DROP)
I bought Takoyaki
And wanted to drink beer with it
So I went to the convenience store near the hotel
(By the way, I’d bought from the same store the day before)
“ID please”
[the cashier] said to me,
Wha??
What are you saying, you old hag*
Which was what I thought, but I composed myself
But I couldn’t show my ID
As I hadn’t brought anything with me
So I told her that but
“Without identification
I’m really sorry but
I cannot sell you alcohol.”
Then I asked if I looked like I’m under 20 and she said
“To people who look like they’re in their 20s
We have to ask for identification.
Recently it’s become stricter.
I’m really sorry.”
So my feelings of anger got mixed with happiness
With that indescribable feeling
I wanted to say I’m 35 but
I couldn’t properly explain
As there were people lining up behind me
And it was troublesome so
I went to another convenience store
That sells alcohol nearby
And they didn’t ask [for ID] so
[I got what I came for] and left
It went very smoothly
(This made me laugh a little)
It was easy to get alcohol there.
Ahh, but
Thank you very much
For thinking I’m younger. **
Because of that my takoyaki became cold.
Ever since,
I’ve been nervous whenever buying alcohol.
It’s my trauma.

*he uses Kansai dialect for ‘oba-san’ (obahan) which is used to address middle aged ladies but I used ‘old hag’ to convey his tone
** he uses keigo/polite speech here to be sarcastic. (note: in the earlier parts where the convenience store staff speaks, she is also using polite speech)
And also because he uses round brackets in his blog post, for parts where I added some words, those words are in square brackets [ ]
Thank you Remy-san for the help!!
I'm still not sure about the whole thing so please point out any mistakes I've made, thanks!
