It doesn’t feel real; it’s like some sort of twisted dream. He’s standing in front of you, talking with eyes fill of sincerity - but he can’t be, it’s completely illogical. And then you think that that’s illogical because you’ve seen Claire come back to life - but that’s her and this is Noah and goddammit you spread his ashes and mourned the loss of your husband.

It’s not that you don’t want it to be true - you do, god you do. But you’re afraid that if you believe it for even a moment it’ll be taken away and you think it’d hurt more then, and you’re so tired of hurting.

Your fingers curl around Lyle’s shoulder as he talks about the deal he made, and you want to scream and shout and pull him into you. This isn’t right - what happened to your dreams of living normal that you shared so long ago? This can’t be how your life was supposed to go; what happened to family dinners where your husband wasn’t whisked away by mysterious phone calls and children that didn’t live in fear of being sliced open as an experiment? What did you do that was so wrong that you can’t even keep your family safe and together?

He says he never meant to hurt you but that’s a lie. If he never meant to hurt you, he never would’ve joined that godforsaken company in the first place. He would’ve gotten a normal job and Claire and Lyle would’ve found their way to you some other way. Not like this. No - no this is wrong.

He’s brushing past and his hand slips into yours - and oh god this is real. He’s real - this is all happening and you know you can’t escape this. He walks away, and with a shuddering gasp your heart breaks until there’s nothing left but the cold.
