Oli had escorted Alex to his cell, coldly informing him of the daily routine in the prison. “You wake up at 6am, morning roll call’s at 6:15, you get til 7 for breakfast then it’s work until 1. You get an hour’s lunch, work again til 7 and get an hour for dinner. Depending on your cell number you’ll either shower or do laundry. After that it’s up to you til 11, that’s when final roll call is. If you’re not in your cell, you’re fucked. There’s a bell for each thing, learn to live by ‘em and you’ll do fine”. It was too much for Alex to take in. He nodded when Oli glanced at him since he figured it was easier to pretend he had a clue what was going on. The two stopped outside cell 132 and Alex was shoved inside, the heavy lock on the door clanking shut as Oli locked him in for the night. He sunk onto the stiff mattress on his bed and let his tears send him to sleep. The harsh sound of a bell ringing through the darkness of Alex’s slumber startled him. He shuffled out of his cell after roll call, still wearing the same clothes as the day before, and made his way to the canteen. He avoided eye contact with the other prisoners, figuring if he didn’t look at anyone he couldn’t piss them off. His tactic worked brilliantly until he bumped into someone. “Hey, watch where you’re… Oh, you’re the new guy everyone’s talking about” a tall skinny boy with skunk hair who must’ve been roughly Alex’s age said. “Uh, yeah, I guess” Alex mumbled, staring at his shoes. “So, what’s your name?” the other boy asked. Alex wasn’t too sure he liked this guy being so friendly with him. “Alex” he mumbled. “What? Speak up, I can’t hear you”. “Alex” he said louder, glancing up for a second. There was a smirk pressed on the other boy’s lips. “Nice to meet you, Alex. I’m Jack Barakat” Jack said, steering Alex over to a table that had only one empty seat. Alex was about to ask where he was supposed to sit when Jack shouted at someone to get the fuck out of the way. A muscular boy with short blonde hair jumped up out of the seat opposite the empty one. He was a little shorter than Jack and could easily overpower him but he looked afraid of the skinny boy. Jack smiled as he sat and gestured at the seat opposite him. The blonde boy hovered by his side, staring at the ground as Alex took his seat. Jack flashed Alex a grin as the two of them started eating but there was another motive behind it. He was scheming. “So Alex, I hear you’re a virgin” Jack said calmly as every pair of eyes at the table turned to Alex. Alex froze, the bread in his hand pausing on its journey to his mouth. “Uh…” “That’ll be a yes then. Listen, the guys here treat virgins like you as a challenge. They compete to see who can fuck you first, who can fuck you hardest and who doesn’t actually have to rape you to get some” Jake paused to take a bite out of his meal and let the information sink in. He had to hold back a smile at the look of fear in Alex’s eye. After a few minutes Alex nodded for Jack to continue. “Lose your V card and all those problems go away” he said, an innocent smile splayed on his lips. The blonde next to him looked up at Alex for a second but looked back down with a blush when Alex caught his eye. Alex didn’t like what Jack was getting at but let him carry on regardless. “You know you can always come to Barakitten, right?” Jack asked in a sickly sweet voice, faux innocence in his chocolate eyes. “Um, thanks, I guess but I really don’t swing that way” Alex said quickly, not looking up from his breakfast of almost stale bread and thick porridge. “There’s a first time for everything” Jack said huskily, giving Alex’s knee a squeeze under the table. Alex shot up, his cheeks glowing red, and shuffled off to find another seat, ignoring Jack’s laughter as he walked away.
