The flat is in utter chaos. Handsome Bob and One Two have torn it apart, leaving a trail in their wake that would rival a tornado. And through it all, Mumbles sits quietly on the sofa, feet propped on the coffee table, calmly reading his graphic novel (not a comic book, fuck you very much, Bob).
Each time they pass through the living room, they give him a glare.
He just flips another page.
"Right then, Mumbles," One Two finally says, stopping with his hands (well, one hand) on his hip. "Where is it?"
"Dunno what you're talking about," Mumbles replies. He never looks up from the book.
"The key," Bob says, sounding as annoyed as Mumbles as ever heard him. Which is something given his current state of affairs.
"The key?" Mumbles finally looks up, looks at them, and arches his eyebrows. "Handcuffs, Bob? Really?"
"It wasn't my idea," Bob protests, but it falls flat. The entire neighborhood knows that Bob's wanted to chain One Two to him for about as long as they've known each other.
"Where's the key?"
Mumbles gives One Two a bland look. "Don't you know?"
"No," One Two snaps, clearly at the end of his patience. "Bob's lost it."
"What'd you go and do that for?"
"I didn't," Bob says, in the long suffering tones of one who has been handcuffed to One Two all afternoon. Which he has, but Mumbles opts not to say anything about that. "I tried to tell him I didn't have it."
Mumbles transfers his gaze back to One Two. "Sorry, mate, can't help you," he says and goes back to his book. "Right bloody stupid of you to put yourself in handcuffs without the key, though."
One Two says something that's not fit for any company and stalks out of the room, hauling Bob with him. Bob protests the whole way that they've already searched that room.
Mumbles just flips another page, smiles, and spares a thought for the small silver key in his pocket.
