Lazy Hazy Summer Daze #25 for
dellastarr who asked for just one. :)
Gaius looks out at the unceasing emptiness of space and tries to remember why they're doing this again. He knew, once, but no longer. Now it's just fight and run and fight some more. But Adama and Roslin say this is the last time.
This far and no farther.
Gaius wishes he could believe them.
He feels a touch on his shoulder, whisper-light, and turns his head just enough to look up at her. Tall and slender and blonde and so achingly beautiful that it's no wonder he lost his head over her. No wonder he lost everything for her.
"You'll drive yourself to madness," she says, fingers gliding up to toy with his hair, a smile curving her full mouth. "It will all be over soon, Gaius."
"I've heard that before," he replies, and has a brief moment of wonder. Is he talking to himself? Is she real?
He gave up questioning that long ago. She's as real as he believes her to be, and he's comfortable with that. Her fingers drift over his nape as she circles to settle in his lap. "You'll see."
He can smell her, light and clean like sunshine, as she leans in, her lips brushing his ear. "This is where we always meant to end up," she whispers, and his eyes close. "You'll see, Gaius. I promise."
