The hot summer sun was beating down relentlessly and both Ginny and Hermione were laying under a tree in the backyard of the Burrow in an attempt to stay cool. They were failing miserably and Hermione is constantly pulling at the damp cotton of her sundress in an attempt to cool her skin.

“You know what we should do,” Ginny lazily drawls.
“What’s that?”
“We should take a pair of brooms out and fly around the yard.”
“You know I can’t fly,” Hermione quietly states.

Ginny sighs as she sat up straighter and stares at Hermione.

“It’s really not that hard,” Ginny replies, “I could teach you how to fly.”

Hermione reluctantly agrees even though she is certain that Ginny would fail just as Ron and Harry did before her and Madame Hooch at Hogwarts before them. When it came to flying, Hermione just didn’t possess the skill, knowledge, interest or the nerves to actually get the broom off of the ground.

Yet she allows herself to be guided on Ginny’s broom with Ginny seated behind her, the red-head’s slender hands on top of her own. When they take off from the ground, it’s clear to Hermione that Ginny is the one doing the flying. Yet Hermione’s still full of nerves despite the re-assuring presence of Ginny right behind her on the broom.

“Relax ‘Mione,” Ginny breathes into Hermione’s ear, causing the brunette to shiver.

She tries to relax against Ginny but Hermione still holds herself stiff, which in turn causes the brook to jerk every now and then. Ginny whispers once again, her breath moist against the shell of Hermione’s ear. The command is the same as before: relax. Yet Hermione’s heart starts to race the moment that Ginny’s lip move from her ear to her neck.

The kiss is deliberate and there’s no way that Hermione can mistake it for anything else but an open-mouthed kiss against the smooth column of her neck, especially when Ginny continues to kiss her. Her hands grip the handle of the broom tighter as she leans back instinctively into Ginny. For a moment or two, she forgets that they are flying.

“Open your eyes,” Ginny softly commands.

When Hermione does, she is surprised to find that they have defied gravity and they are flying smoothly. The Burrow is quite far away from them and for a moment Hermione panics before Ginny’s soft hands smooth the material of her dress against her waist.

“I’m flying,” Hermione exclaims.
“I told you it was easy,” Ginny replies before she laughs.

The broom jumps again until Ginny tightens her arms around the other witch’s waist and kisses her neck once again. They fly back towards the Burrow and then around the house a few times before Ginny guides Hermione into landing the broom. They tumble off of the broom and into the shade of their tree, breathless and laughing before Ginny pulls Hermione closer and kisses her full on the lips.
