Summary: The real reason why Dean has cassette tapes in the Impala.
Word Count: 230
Dean can’t help but roll his eyes at Sam whenever his younger brother makes fun of the fact that he still has a box of cassettes tucked under the front seat of the Impala. It’s easy enough for Sam to go out and buy CDs or iPods or whatever but just who does Sam really think Dean is?
Dean wants to say it’s only because a CD player in the Impala would be completely tacky. But it’s more a question of money and the cost. The cassettes might be old and practically worn out but they’re cheap and Dean can’t justify going out and buying a CD player for the Impala and then paying for someone to install it. And then there’s the whole cost of transferring his cassette collection into CD.
At the end of the day, Dean knows it wouldn’t be cheap. And maybe Sam had the luxury of having a job while he was at college. A regular job that college students have, probably working at some coffee shop or book store if Dean knew his brother. But Dean doesn’t have that luxury and he feels guilty enough about the fact that his money is made either by fleecing drunks at the bar at pool or by credit card scams. So as far as he’s concerned he’ll make do with worn out cassette tapes in the Impala.
