When Harry was younger, he always dreamt about finding a way to escape 4 Privet Drive. Although strange things had always occurred around him, Harry had always thought that strange things routinely happen to people, his family just called more attention to it when it happened to him. Harry James Potter never thought that he was special. Perhaps it was the fact that the Dursleys always took the time to tell him that he wasn't special or perhaps it was the fact that nothing special ever happened to him.
The strange things that had happened, aside from maybe talking to a snake, hadn't really been special. They had just been strange and unusual. And then his letter came. And Harry could no longer deny that he was really unusual, maybe not strange but definitely special.
The best part about of it was that he had a name for what he was, for the things that he could cause to happen and he felt happy. Happier than when he talked to the snake. He was a wizard and he could cast magic. And he wasn't alone. There were others like him.
How could he be strange like his Aunt Petunia claimed if he wasn't the only one who could do the things that he could do?
It was when he was on the train to Hogwarts that Harry realized that he had found an escape from Privet Drive and the tyranny of his Aunt and Uncle. He doubted that they'd ever see him as anything but a strange child but at least he'd know the truth about himself and his parents.
