Edie & Andy, Andy & Edie: the notorious 60s!

Oct 18, 2009 06:11

I need some help for a journalism assignment, and i know some of you here have quite an interest in Fashion and Art. It doesn't really involve fashion, more of like knowledge of a person per se... so i'm posting it up here, and i hope you guys are able to offer me a helping hand!

EDIE SEDGWICK (1943-1971)

I'll be writing an article about Edie Sedgwick, and i intend to include little interviews, just to see people's different opinions about her. Edie Sedgwick was an American socialite, most famous for being Andy Warhol's muse who shook the 60's with her quirky sense of style and wacky, off the hook personality. She was very dependent on her cigarettes, alcohol and drugs, and eventually died of an overdose. I'm not sure if you guys are familiar with her at all, but i'm just kinda hoping to get more opinions about her and decided to try my flist. ^_^ Below i have some questions about her, and if you do even know about her at all, i would appreciate if you could take some time to fill it up for me in the comments.

QUESTIONS

1)Describe Edie Sedgwick in your opinion. What do you know/understand about her? (Eg: Warhol's muse? socialite? superstar? model? more as a dreamy star in her own class? troubled junkie who's life and death has been over publicized?)

2)How did you come to know about her?

3)She is known for her quirky fashion in the 60's, what do you think of her style? Do you see her influence in present day fashion?

4)Do you think she is worthy of being called an "iconic figure"?

I couldn't just let this be this naggy help needed post could i? This is a little snippet of the busy times these past few weeks with school; just to share with you what is it that i do.

my visualization and presentation installation. Lock and Key.

It was based on a chosen photograph; and then we built an installation to lay out our feelings or emotions evoked when looking at this photograph. I chose the one with the hand holding the key, unlocking/locking a door (from the movie NANA). And basically, i was being all
destroying for this installation. I smashed an old looking pot, stained papers with tea for an old effect and burnt lots of them; resulting in my house looking like a scene from a horror movie. This photo is quite personal to me, as i look at doors as the past/present and future. The only key to either the memories or the unseen future is in my hands, and no one else will open it or lock it other than myself. And even though it might be painful or hard to lock up something from the past, i will do so with flourish, taking along only my pride; and walk tall to the next door, hesitant but excited, i unlock the future, not knowing what it will bring. And also because i'm quite a strong character, stubborn, willful, lots of pride; a little like Nana; i chose this photo because i could identify too. So that was my personal installation, every piece of paper was filled with text, quotes or lyrics that i could relate to, that i thought was pretty much part of myself.... i remember putting a lot of Laruku & plastic tree lyrics there. Alone en la Vida was definitely there. =p and there were little quotes like "too fast to live, too young to die", "welcome to the jungle!", "what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger", "love is not constant, dreams keep us alive.", "trust your voice". basically things that i live by and take to heart. My cigarettes were there, together with the scattered shards that represent the past or unhappy times and roses that represent the happy, brilliant times.

Recently, i also secured my internship, starting Nov 2nd with a local stylist, Jumius Wong. Obviously i won't be paid. =( but i look forward to the experience! I had to show him my portfolio and have an interview... This was what i put in it!
