Peace Be Thine

It was just a line in a song, I never meant you to take it to heart
And yet here I stand in uncharted lands
I am a visitor here
But I still find time to
Reminisce
Ah yes, the good ol' days
That's what life is really about
Isn't it?
Everything you ever do only amounts to
A memory
That you look upon with sadness
Entombed by the paralytic state of nostalgia
"How I wish I were there again!"
Is what you would say
The sweetest remembrances
Taunt you with their lifetime of appeal
They heckle and beg and plead and
Torture
With their cries of
(malicious)Intent
"Come back to us! It's beautiful here!"
And they dig
And they dig
And they dig
And they DIG!
Until suddenly the whole world has taken
Afoot, but they're all running in the
Wrong direction
And as you shout, "You fools, come back!"
Their own fog of chants is so deafening
You're wasting your thoughts
Your time
And your breath
After the sound of them laughing and cheering
Joking and jeering
Their hearts so endearing
Dies
You are alone with the silence
And of all the things you could do
In your moment of ultimate freedom, you scream
"YOU CAN NEVER GO BACK!"
But it is far too late
They have succumbed to the
Hopes and dreams
That their loves and fears have brought
Onto them.
So now do you see?
It was just a line in a song
I never meant you to take it to heart
