This last weekend was sort of an impromptu trip down to New York. Since
lite_bright is off to law school quite shortly, we were trying to figure out when to meet up before she leaves. And on I think Tuesday, we decided that since I'd be halfway down there at an interview in Connecticut, I might as well continue on down to her house. So I got there at about 4.30 and lurked around the house until she got back from work about five, and then the awesome times began!
On Friday I spent the morning in Central Park while she worked, reading Perks of Being a Wallflower for the first time since middle school and hating it just as much as I did back then, and also arranging an interview for a job that I don't really want and am not really qualified to do but that is close by and would be work. That afternoon/evening we storyboarded and began working on our seminal work of children's literature, Taylor the Friendly Werehorse, which began back when finals ended but never came to fruition. We seriously spent several hours working on this, particularly because neither of us can draw horses. It was either very sad or quite impressive; her mother told us that if we put our creativity and energy into something useful, we could end up saving people's lives. Also Jane has insisted that the photographs of it be posted, so that will be happening later but if you have any respect for me left at all you might not want to look at them.
Saturday was the beach with
sunlara, which was an incredibly great day. I could not stop telling people how impressively warm the water was, and I'm sure they were sick of it but I still cannot believe it. I haven't spent that much time in the ocean since at least grade school, but possible ever, and am going to be totally spoiled for when I head up to New Hampshire in August and cannot get without extreme pain and a desperate hope for numbness. I also can't remember a time when I've stayed on the beach past maybe four, but the weather was just so perfect and everything was just so excellent, I couldn't believe it when we were leaving and it was seven already. The sun setting as we took the ferry back completed an excellent day.
Yesterday was mostly just hanging about, finishing our book and helping with yard work, walking the dog. Very relaxing. I headed out at about nine, and now am home! Apparently Lucy got fleas over the weekend, and Anne supposedly took care of it but I'm still sitting here paranoid that things are crawling on me.
