So on a whim a couple weeks ago, I decided to start watching Dawson's Creek. And after skipping most of season 1, it ended up being just the sort of show I love! But it's weird, because in elementary school we all had this idea of it being super scandalous, full of teenagers constantly sleeping together and drinking and probably using drugs as well. Except now I am watching it and it is not like that at all? Just a couple episodes ago, Joey had this whole rant about how no one should sleep with anyone they don't love, and how meaningless sex is awful. And it's true that occasionally one or two of them will get drunk, but it is always portrayed as having negative consequences. And again Joey lectures people. A common theme! So actually it's kind of moralizing sometimes? From what I've heard it gets crazy in a couple seasons, but that's common fifth season syndrome. Anyway, I am well aware that I have vastly differing opinions from other people on what equals good TV (because edgy and "daring" and bleak are way overrated), but it is fairly good television at this point, in my opinion! Of course I've also skipped about half the episodes if they sounded boring in the summaries so who am I to judge?
ETA: Also this kind of makes it sound like I like it because it is moralizing, instead of having thoughts separated where they ought to be. Whoops!

Dawson sucks, though. And also Henry is creepy and Jen should not date him.

But the only other thing that's happened in my life has been learning to make double sided photocopies and reading about state development theory. If I had as much to say about state development theory as I do about Dawson's Creek, life would be a much easier place.
