For asunder

Mokuba waits for Seto to get home after a business trip; he knows it's silly, but he can't help himself. He wants to see his brother first thing after he gets back from the trip, he wants to greet him, help him with his things, ask if he needs anything. He knows Seto will be worn out from the flight and all the meetings and thinking in another language for weeks, and he wants desperately to be able to fix it somehow. He knows he can't; he's tried so many times before; but it doesn't matter, he's going to try again, he's always going to try again until the day he dies. To make a difference for his brother is something that he'll never give up on, no matter how impossible it is.

Time goes by, the sun sets. Mokuba's forgotten the time Seto's flight was supposed to come in, but he feels like it should be sometime soon. Time keeps going, however, slowly and monochromatically, seeping like mollases being poured until Mokuba's drifting off against his will, head leaning against the wall.

And then, all of a sudden, Seto's there, looking worn out and sleep deprived, and Mokuba's starting awake and jumping to his feet, apologizing and offering to take his bags and asking if he needs anything, and Seto only shakes his head and walks on. Mokuba knows he's failed again, and is about to head to his room a little discouraged but more determined when he hears the metalic footsteps stop. He looks back at Seto inquisitively.

Seto hesitates, then looks over his shoulder at Mokuba. He seems apprehensive, but a small smile dances across his lips and he's saying "Mokuba...thank you." Mokuba can't believe his ears, and he's looking at Seto blankly before he realizes himself and breaks into a wide smile. Seto only lingers for a second, he's gone before Mokuba can really think it through, but it doesn't matter. Nothing matters now, not anymore. It wasn't eloquent or wordy, but he's finally succeeded, and no matter how small, it's enough. It's more than enough.
