Title: Spoiled
Disclaimer: Alas, the gay tennis boys in gay tennis Japan are not mine.
Rating: Gish?
Warnings: mentions of BL, Ryoma being a jerk
Author's note: This can be a bit of a follow-up to
Gold Digger, though it doesn't really have to be. I love Ryoma for the arrogant douche that he is. XD;;;
The change was subtle, and not readily obvious at first. It was little things, like the burgers everyone else was eating after practice, or the snacks someone brought along for the bus ride to the tournament. It was things no one really noticed, because Ryoma tended to be fickle about that sort of thing, anyway. No one really noticed, anyway, until the trend started to become apparent.
It seemed to happen gradually, but looking back, it was all too obvious; first Ryoma would refuse a few foods, then some foods, then a lot of foods, until, finally, Ryoma hardly touched anything placed in front of him by any Seigaku Regular. Still, they couldn't figure out the reason behind Ryoma's sudden picky eating; it had never been a problem before, and though sometimes he complained that he didn't like milk, or he wouldn't touch anything that sweet, he was generally easy to feed. But somehow, it ended up that Ryoma would simply sit and watch the rest of the Regulars eat, and would ignore any comments on the subject in general, changing the subject, looking away, or just plain getting up and leaving. It was puzzling, and soon, amongst his teammates, many theories began to be formed, from a secret illness to a secret affair to a secret fact Ryoma was, in fact, an alien, but no one could really believe any of it, and so they were left to puzzle.
But then the bentos started. No one really payed attention to what anyone ate for lunch, but when they had lunchtime practices and they all ate together on the courts, no one could help but notice that all of a sudden, Ryoma was coming to school with extremely expensive hand-made bentos, and then it all became clear. Ryoma wasn't sick or hiding anything from the rest of the Regulars. His boyfriend was turning him into a spoiled brat.
Seeing as none of the rest of the Seigaku Regulars were overly fond of Atobe, this revelation led to general dismay amongst the team, and finally, they came to the decision that something had to be done. After all, Ryoma himself wasn't wealthy, and he couldn't always count on Atobe taking care of him! They went away to tournaments all the time, and Ryoma had to re-learn to feed himself on whatever budget he had. And so, for the boy's own good, Oishi got nominated to give him a little talking-to. After practice one day, he pulled Ryoma aside before he could escape to the changing rooms, and delicately brought up the subject.
"... so, Echizen... we've been noticing you've been a little picky about eating recently..." Oishi's discomfort was obvious, and Ryoma only raised an eyebrow.
"So?"
"...so... we thought it would be best if you tried to be a little bit less picky... after all, when we go places as a team--"
"I'll manage." Ryoma looked thoroughly disinterested, and was now looking at his racquet, which he was spinning against the court idly. Oishi swallowed and tried again, wishing the boy were at least a little more respectful.
"Echizen, when we go to the tournament next weekend, you'll have to feed yourself. What are you going to do? You won't touch anything we put in front of you recently, and we don't want you losing because you're too hungry--"
Oishi cut off as Ryoma suddenly swung his racquet up over his shoulder and looked up at him with a wicked grin. "Oishi-sempai, don't you know?"
Oishi was perplexed. "What?"
Ryoma's grin only widened, into something, perhaps, of a satisfied smirk. "Hyoutei's going to be there, too." And with that, Ryoma turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Oishi dismayed and speechless.
And that was the end of that.
