I can't seem to stop listening to Desecration Smile from the Red Hot Chili Pepper's last album, Stadium Arcadium. I can't stop playing it on guitar either. Its such a nice song. Its a perfect blend of acoustic guitars strummed by themselves during the verses, until Chad Smith's snappy drum technique kicks in for an infectuous chorus that cannot escape my head.
I've grown to appreciate latter day Chili Peppers a lot in the last few years. At first I was quite dissapointed that they strayed away from their funky early sound, and not even so much that, but the intensity that came with the earlier sound. There was an amazing amount of intensity in their one off album they did with Dave Navarro, One Hot Minute, which had a lot less funk. I think what has replaced the youthful intensity is a very mature sense of musicianship. What they produced on Californication, By The Way, and Stadium Arcadium have turned out to be some very memorable and personal songs. They've paid much more attention to how the lyrics go with the music. Not saying they didn't before, but it just seems much more evident in their later work. And I was speaking generally, there are songs in their later catalog that still hold intensity.
Aside from Chili Peppers, I just got back from seeing Peelander-Z!! Not only are they the most awesome Japanese punk band, they are the nicest guys too. Great time, it's almost 2 am and I have to work soon...noooooooooo
I have not drank my weekly bottle of wine in about 3 weeks....this needs to be remedied SOON. This weekend I should have time to enjoy a new red. Kennedy, one of the workers at Total Wine here in Richmond recently turned me on to the Tannat varietal. A bit more pronounced and in your face than most merlots and cabernets, I had one that was mostly Tannat and blended with some Merlot if I remember correctly. Next time I shall be on the hunt for a 100% tannat!
Side note: Been over a month since Bocks Car's disbanding, and subsequent disintegration of friendship with Josh. I am so eager to start playing music with the (somewhat) new band. I say somewhat since the only thing that has changed is singers....oh and more awesomeness
