Today was my second day at Starbucks.
It went well, but working the register was kind of overwhelming. And I thought Wendy's had a lot of stuff on the menu!!! Starbucks has six or more different menus that the drinks and food are separated into on the register's touch screen. I think I kind of have the hang of it now. Some drinks are hard to find though because the abbreviations look funny on the screen.
One thing I noticed is that the company is much more careful about its money. It has safety features implemented than ensure no one else will use your register. They also have you count the register before you use it and the manager watches you count it when you're done. Wendy's never did any of that stuff with me. (Maybe they really trusted me. Ha... no. It's called laziness.)
I met a bunch of other partners today and they were really nice. One in particular, Sonny, helped me out a lot. He was training me instead of Ronnie, my manager. Not only was Sonny patient, but he was funny and he made learning the register a little less mind-boggling.
My new found love for coffee has sent me on a music searching venture with "Project Playlist," the playlist site that is showing up on many people's myspaces. This morning I was adding a bunch of songs I liked. Now, I'm adding any songs I can find about COFFEE. Haha.... Dennis bought me Red Hot Chili Pepper's, "Stadium Arcadium." I was going to buy it when I first came out. I never did because I didn't want to spend $20 on a CD I didn't think I would really like. BUT... I heard part of it in my photography professor's class during one of our lab processing sessions and I liked it. I listened to the whole thing today and now I LOVE it. Thank you Dennis.
Anyway, I've also been tasting a lot of coffee. You know, that's important too. Today, I tried a White Mocha Latte.... very yummy. I also made an Iced Caramel Latte. I learned to make some other drinks, but didn't taste them because they were for customers and we were kind of busy. I made my own hot chocolate before I left. The milk steamer is a tricky device, but it's fun and I think I have a handle on making foam for lattes! It's kind of confusing because some lattes get whipped cream and not foam. Let's just say, I have a lot left to learn, especially since I'm just now becoming a coffee drinker and know NOTHING about coffee. I will become knowledgeable with time though. Just you wait! I think all I know about coffee right now is that our House blend from Latin America is the mildest coffee we offer and Sumatra from Asia is one of our boldest. The only reason I know this is because House is the kind of coffee ordered most often and Sumatra is the coffee I chose for my free pound of coffee for this month.
I've got a history of Starbucks training class to go to Saturday. And Friday is my last day at Wendy's. PARTYYYYY!
Oh yeah.... Valentine's Day was wonderful. I made sirloin steak and twice-baked potatoes. Dennis' card made me cry, like always. And it's funny because I wrote many things in my letter to him that he had written me in the card he gave me. We're on the same wavelength and in tune as a couple.
Oh yeah, I've been speaking so much about Starbucks and love that I forgot about my other passion slash obsession. SCHOOL. It's going well. I got an A- on my first photo project and considering all the trouble I had with it, I'm happy with my grade. I already have the second project to worry about it. It deals strictly with different types of lighting. It's due in less than two weeks starting.....NOW. I've got to get going with that. Advanced Reporting is going well. I have my first story for the class completed. I just need to do some fact checking and then I'm going to submit it to the Spinnaker's editor. Hopefully, I'll end up published again. I pitched my city news story to my professor today. I hope he likes my idea so I can get going on it. It involves a lot of investigating and with this new job, I'm not sure when I'll have the time to interview people at the sheriff's office, maybe some people in jail, and countless people from environmental organizations and county commissioners. AHHHH! I'm crazy busy, but I am determined to do something FUN this weekend. Don't get me wrong, I think reporting is fun - it's just kind of stressful right now because half the time I feel like I don't even know where to start. My writing style is improving though.
Anyway, that's all for now.
Goodnight all.
