So, for the third (and last) time, I will be participating in the St. Louis District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions. I managed to sneak in eligibility by six days (the cut-off was August 1, 1976--I was born on August 7). Thus far I have failed to advance, although I was assured (admittedly by some rather biased individuals) that on my first attempt I was unfairly passed over. Whatever.
This year I premier three new arie: Questo amor vergogna mia by Puccini, O Nadir, tendre ami de mon jeune age by Bizet, and I've got a ram, Goliath by Moore. I fill out my program with my old standbys Come Paride vezzoso by Donizetti and Mein Sehnen, mein Wähnen by Korngold. My plan as of now is to start with the Puccini.
Joe Michels is also participating. The show starts at 11:00 at the art museum auditorium. I go at 11:50; I don't know when Joe goes. If you're one of my St. Louis friends, I would appreciate it if you could be there (but understand if you can't). If you're, uh,
iampunha, then, well, hi there.
At any rate, good wishes etc. would be appreciated. We shall see what happens. I'll update after the dust settles.
(
iampunha is my only non-St. Louis friend. Just so we're clear.)
