so many titles, so little time
I'm not dead, but I kind of wish all of the computers were.
um, lessee. our servers were hacked a couple weeks ago. these are our office servers, versus the servers for the college or the hospital or whatnot. these are the servers where all the test stuff is kept. both the main server, and then the backup, poof! gone. well, not gone precisely, but they had to be taken offline and rebuilt. we were offline for four days. one of our groups had to take a PAPER AND PENCIL test!
our main server is currently being managed and maintained by the IT people across the river. main IT for the university. when the server was put back online (Sept 2), IT Security Office (hereafter known as ITSO) said we would have to restrict access to only on-campus use until all the vulnerabilities have been fixed and how it was hacked has been determined. I said, okay, but we have a couple tests on Sept 17 that will have off-campus users, so we have to have a solution for that by then.
the solution was implemented about 8:30 on Friday morning, Sept 17. Friday morning was not a good morning for me. apart from that, all has been pretty quiet. we've finally advertised the open position to replace the test group person who left in July. there was discussion for a while about whether to fill the position, who would be in charge if we hired someone, etc. finance and territory. that's what it always is.
Friday is a big test, ~150 first-year students. this will be the first exam where the students will take the test using their own computers. not only will it be the first time we've tried this new procedure, it'll be the first time these students have taken an exam using our software. will probably be... interesting.

we have mood lighting! we have a big hole in the wall for the new medicine cabinet! we have the plumber scheduled for next week to come in and get the tub all done!
after the tub/shower plumbing is done, we'll work on getting the shower tiled. probably have to wait on the rest of the bathroom, but we'd like at least to have the main floor shower usable this winter.
we're going to have to figure out some more lights to install. we have our two new sconce lights attached to the wall, along with a vent fan now and a second outlet by the sink and mirror. but we need more light. our new sconces are very cool and I like them a lot. don't know what we're going to add to the mix to make it brighter in there, though, because the sconces are very large. plus our mirror is arched at the top and bottom, so putting additional lights above or below would be tricky. we'll have to work on that.
I have to go to the Englert and take pictures of the bathroom. I like the tile job there, and we want to have pictures to show to the tile people. it was kind of weird to call the Englert and talk to someone in the box office, to say, hi, I want to come take a picture of your bathroom. when can I do that? but she was very nice once I explained why...

am feeling overwhelmed and tired lately. I would like to fast-forward to about... well, never mind. I know, I know. I need to appreciate and revel in every moment. it's just that I wish I could revel in a few more moments that involve being in bed.
