yesterday, we visited Korea and made a hosta flower bed.
David also biked 15 miles, but leg and bike problems prevented him from doing the full 40 he had planned. instead, he took Randy on a serious walk and tuckered them both out.
the hosta bed is planted, the big bare earth spot in front of it has been seeded, and we marked out the flower bed on the hill.
poor Randy was very, very, very upset about the fireworks that were popped off somewhere down the block. we left him home alone while we went to Menard's for supplies, and he was really worked up when we got home. I made him stay outside until he pottied just a little bit, which took a really, really, really, really, really, really long time because all he wanted was to go back indoors and hide from the scary noises. I stayed out with him until he finally squatted for approximately two seconds, and we went back inside.
he followed me around after that like a lost lamb, even going so far as to stand in the bathroom while I took a shower before bed. the whole time. just... standing there in the bathroom while I showered. panting. distressed. wanting to be close to his people. I talked to him while I washed off. he followed me out to the living room afterward so David could shower, too. our bathroom isn't big enough for two adult humans and an adult greyhound.

today, I was out and working on the flower bed on the hill at 7 am. I was surprised Randy let us sleep in until 6:45; usually he's ready for breakfast at 5:30. actually, he didn't wake me up at 6:45. I needed to attend to nature's call, so I just got up and took care of the dog, too.
went outside and worked on the flower bed until about 10:30. David came out and helped me for a while, too. but it just is so, so, sooooooo yucky today! weather dot com says it's currently 87 degrees out, but it feels like 92 degrees. having been outside mowing until recently, I say to that, it feels like only 92? I was thinking closer to 100!
anyhow, we got the sod all taken up and a lot of dirt moved from the bed to other areas. luckily we have some places to put dirt that are really close to the flower bed. namely, the holes where the bushes used to be. after some of the dirt is removed, we have some compost to work into the remaining soil.
I noticed that we don't really have much actual soil. mostly it's clay. but then I realized that's okay. we don't really have any grass, either; just weeds. I conclude that we have a fake lawn.
