in addition to the aforementioned cookies, other things that were in and out of our oven this weekend were a double batch of butterscotch brownies, a ??-batch of oven stew, and a double batch of Chex mix.
I thought it would be really awesome to cook stew up in the oven on Saturday morning. it could bake while I mixed cookie dough, and then we'd have something easy to heat up so we wouldn't spend the entire weekend gorging on cookies.
of course, then I didn't get moving as early on Saturday as I hoped, so the stew went in the oven later. it was still done before David went off to gaming at 3:00, though, so we ate lunch together.
David took the brownies as treats to gaming. brought some home, too, amazingly.
we will be having Jared and perhaps some other people over on Wednesday night, so the Chex mix.... whatever survives until then... is for entertaining.
David grudgingly agreed to allow me to make the mix this year without pretzels. I am rather indifferent about pretzels just in general, and in particular, can't be bothered with them in Chex mix. actually, I pretty much subscribe to the Dieter philosophy about Chex mix, but unfortunately, David likes nuts and other things in there, too. he likes pretzels, too, he tells me, but it would help if I would eat my fair share! nonsense!
last year, we bought pretzels just for the chex mix. we had a fairly long conversation in the store about what pretzels to get, because I wanted to get the cheap, small bag of sticks, and he wanted the bigger bag of holiday shapes. we ended up with holiday shapes, didn't use the entire bag, unsurprisingly, and I think I finally threw the stale extras out in July.
anyway, Hy-Vee brand toasted cereals of various kinds, mixed nuts, and bagel chips. that's all that's in there, and it's awesome.
