well, I didn't take Friday off for any particular reason, except that I felt I needed a vacation day and it was the Friday of Spring Break. no one was here, so I didn't want to be here, either. if I had come in, I was guaranteed to be in Budgeting Hell, so I ditched. it's been so long since I've paid any attention to the Easter holiday, I was surprised to find so many businesses and places closed for Good Friday. weird.
anyhow, Friday morning was spent looking at glasses yet again. we went to two places and took pictures of David wearing the frames he was interested in. we managed to narrow the options to three, and he was required to make a decision by Saturday.
after glasses hunting, David had to go to work and I took Andy to the dog park for about an hour. he really had a good time, though it was rather chilly for the humans. unfortunately, though I had intended to take him into the main park, by the time the other greyhound people were ready to leave the training yard, there were some obnoxious dogs in the main park that I didn't want to deal with. so, much to his disappointment, we left instead. he cried much of the way home.
after the dog park, I went shopping! mostly I needed some pants for work, but a few spring/summer work shirts would also have been nice. I hit up a couple stores we have plastic for, and managed to purchase three pair of pants and six or seven shirts, all of which were either on sale or clearance. I spent a lot of time in the fitting room. my theory is, I'll have my clothes off anyway, so I may as well make it worth my while. which means I tried on anything that looked even vaguely interesting on the clearance rack that was my size. the only thing I wasn't able to get was underthings. I was just heading into that department when David called to let me know he was done and wanted me to come get him. which I did. I was tired, anyway, and we still needed to get groceries. I'll have to head back to the store this week for those last bits, and then I should be good to go for a few months.
at some point, David might want to actually go to actual stores to actually buy the clothes he keeps saying he actually needs. I wearied of waiting on him, though, so I took myself to the store and bought the things I needed. I'm sure someday he'll be willing to shop. I realize it's a lot harder for him, though. it's not as easy to find nice men's clothes on clearance, and it's also really hard to pay full price for clothes. we usually buy things on sale, but even so, it's very, very difficult to find pants that fit him well that also last. we've gotten a number of pairs of pants that looked really nice, but wore out very quickly. it's annoying to pay over $30 for a pair of pants that don't last more than a few months.
but that's enough for clothes complaints.
Friday night and Saturday, David and I - mostly David - looked at pictures of his smiling mug with different frames, and tried to decide which ones to buy. he eventually settled on a particular pair, provided we could get different nose rests for them. the original nose rests on the display model were very tiny, and felt like they were drilling holes into his nose. so we went to the store and he inquired about getting different nose rests. the very friendly and helpful woman said yes, sure those could be replaced with larger nose rests, and she also replaced the nose rests on David's current glasses for no charge. that was very nice of her.
David ordered his new glasses with all the bells and whistles he wanted. he upgraded his lenses to a lighter, more durable material, got the anti-glare and scratch resistance coatings, and a couple things I don't remember. then we drove around on some errands before going home and crashing. I watched a very weird movie, and David took a nap. he was supposed to be watching the movie as well, but it wasn't holding his interest, so he fell asleep instead.
then it was on to our true Saturday project (see next journal entry). that took us until about four hours, with a mid-point break in there to refill the steamer. cleaned up, crashed with dinner, called Mom, went to bed.
Sunday, it was yucky out. cold and overcast, with flurries turning to real snow. we had snow on the ground when we got up, too, though just on the grass. someone at church described the snow on the grass as a light dusting. to me, it looked more like old cobwebs. maybe I'm biased against snow right now.
did the church thing, and that went well. after church, we went over to Erin's place with the family to help celebrate Olivia's dedication. which meant we got a semi-traditional Easter dinner (ham and potatoes, anyway) without having to prepare it ourselves. we did that social thing for a while, and I got to play with some baby toys. I got to give Erin and Doug a hard time about their highly inappropriate baby toys.
one was a St. Patrick's day thing, which basically was a beanie bear sitting under/hugging a very tall four-leaf clover. it looked to me like a green bear doing a pole dance, though, which I told them. the other toy was a lamb finger puppet. um, let's just say the finger went into a very questionable part of the lamb's anatomy. yes, yes, I know I have a dirty mind. still, it was funny. we all chortled about violating the sheep.
gaming at the local gaming place. we're just trying to become comfortable there and start fitting in. more on that in another post. then home to bed.
