I watched a world that suffered immensely,
There was so much it wanted to say but forgot how,
The way the merchants would preach,
And tell them it was all alright,
There were men of stature,
And others of the plebeian type,
And everything was as it was,
Cars filled the roads in cities,
And farms were in the country,
And people were anywhere they could live,
The stock market was booming,
The economy was doing fine,
Money was in pockets,
But the world felt empty and deceived,
Who are we,
The murmur of these words was like a scream,
Is this life really so fatalistic?
Often it was wondered where purpose had gone,
Society was luke warm at best,
It wasn't the worst of times,
It wasn't the best.
Men would stare at the government in wonder and awe,
Still they would squint their eyes,
The dazzle that was there one before,
Was now clouded in a haze,
Money had grown it's wings,
Flying to places unimagined,
Places that people feared,
There was the great beast that lingered in the shadows,
Nameless,
Endless,
Nothingness,
It would say it's name,
But nobody could understand,
Many names and many human faces it became,
So many seeking power under it's wings.
