Mum left early on Sunday as the weather was so appalling, which is a shame, as I could have done with her when I ended up spending 40 minutes in the woods with a collapsed walker, who had norovirus and was exploding out both ends. Yuck. The ambulance crew weren't great, the patient's wife and I had to persuade him to walk down the hill with help, rather then spend another 30 minutes lying on the ground in the snow waiting for the mountain rescue team. I get the ambulance crew didn't really want to take norovirus into a hospital, but a diabetic with a 3 heart stents probably does need extra care. Their suggestions for the air ambulance were pretty useless too as there was no where for it to land, but at least they listened to my local knowledge!
Anyway, when I finally got back down, having just about managed not to throw up on the gross smelly guy, Alex was having fun with his weigh bridge Grannies and had been plied with biscuits.
We all ended up eating together on Sunday night, mainly so we could get away early due to the appalling weather! Alex was happy and we got away by 7:30. The hill road was a bit slippery, but the worst bit was Lockton bank as some idiot had spread grit in a thick layer all over it. Why do people think spreading pea gravel all over the road helps to grip??
On Monday I tried to tackle the week's washing mountain, got a new spare tire and a puncture repaired which took ages, then packed and set off for Oaken Grove. No-one came! After that I had to drive to Pickering to stay at Mum's overnight. Alex had a great time taking the dog round the castle in the snow, but it was bitterly cold. When Simon rang Alex said "Hello Daddy, I no come home, I with Granny, bye" and handed me the phone back!
This morning was just as cold and I was so glad that I wasn't driving down from York for 9:30! The food hygiene course went well, even after I made the mistake of saying what the E in E. coli stood for! I got asked all the questions no-one else could answer after that, but I got 100% in the final test, so no problem. Alex had actually missed me when I got back, but he did spend a lot of time with Mum last week. I hope he'll be OK at nursery tomorrow.
