I got the pectolase, and used the trip to drop a Herman culture off to Julia, 2 jobs done! I got home, dumped some pectolase in the mash, packed and then Simon appeared. after a quick dinner and sort out we managed to get to Pickering for 7:30, only 30 minutes late for trust board, so not too bad considering Simon was working in London!
We dropped him off, came down to Levisham, reunited Alex with his beloved Granny and finally got him in to bed at 8. When the Diner went through at 8:30 we thought he was asleep, but we heard 'ooooh, train' over the baby monitor! Then at 9 he started crying and I went to check to find he was on the window sill in the front room, not in his bed at all, little sod.
On Saturday Mum and I took him a hair cut, which went very well, then came back to the station. We spent a quiet afternoon waiting for Andy to call as he was coming over from Sheffield where he is working at the mo, as opposed to Dubai or Johannesburg! Its been lovely having him around. We all ate next door, pork roast and mixed berry sponge, all the better for not having cooked it!
On Sunday I did the accounts and cooked Mousakka for 9, while Mum played with Alex. While he slept I attempted my first strudel. Throwing the pastry around was fun, but I think the next one needs to be served warm, it had gone a little chewy. The spiced apple, raisin and mascarpone filling was nice though. The evening went well and we headed off to the pub for a few pints and to get rid of some change. Mum and Dad had gone home, so we took Andy with us. He was filling us in on the new super efficient boiler his friend's new company is making and he is selling and installing all over the world, sounds quite interesting.
Today Alex took off with Andy and led him round to show him all his toys, the sand pit, and the play house, in lieu of Granny! We were discussing the possibility of Alex being colour blind, and Andy said he should be fine as it skips a generation, but when I reminded him mine was the skipped carrier generation and Alex was his great nephew, I think he felt a bit old!
I tried to take Alex on the A4, but he got very cross and when I put him down he went back to the sand pit to fetch his own shovel for the coal on the foot plate! Very cute.
I've just now been bagging up about 30 portions of fresh whiting delivered from Rob after being caught yesterday, it smells great. We'll probably smoke some next weekend, but its so good some of it will have to be eaten fresh.
