Last weekend was quite quiet, apart from finding out that Doreen's sister isn't talking to her and hasn't been since their trip to Australia last year. Doreen thinks Elaine thinks they may have found out things they weren't supposed to know. Oh the intrigue. I think I will stay out of that one.
Richard pointed out that out front passenger wheel on the car had a chunk missing out of it, and could have blown at any time, so we swapped it with the spare. We then looked at the other one and it is quite low on tread. As we now had one brand new tire, one worn one and no spare it was not a good situation when faced with a 4 hour drive to Norfolk.
Mum took Alex away at 16:30 on Sunday, and the evening was eerily quiet.
Monday's Jo Ro partnership day felt very successful, but we shall have to wait and see what comes out of it in the way of joint projects and funding for the loneliness project. Luckily Simon got back to York earlier then expected and managed to get the car sorted, so that was a load off our minds.
We had a fairly good drive over, arrived at Sheringham at 21:15, checked into the B&B and headed out for beer. We didn't come across anyone in the pubs, but we had a nice evening.
Due to the constant pouring rain our planned walks fell by the wayside so we took the train to Cromer instead. We had an amble, looked round the museum (which was very good), raided tourist information ,had sandwiches on the train back and then drove to Holt. We got the train back to Sheringham and did the round trip then drove on into Holt proper and wandered round the shops. We bought Haggis crisps, but they were very odd! We also got some interesting bread flour from Letheringsett Mill before heading back to Sheringham for dinner. We had a very nice dinner in the Wyndham Arms and met one of Simon's friends in there too. We wandered around a few other pubs, drank some excellent local beer and then called it a night.
Yesterday we went to Weybourne in the morning for a look round the sheds and ended up being there for ages catching up with people and the current projects.
After that we headed over Wroxham way to look at some craft barns that just happened to have a brewery! They were OK and had a bit of a farm park, so maybe somewhere to take Alex in August. We had afternoon tea at a stately home garden then wound up at an excellent pub for dinner. My trio of venison dishes was excellent, but badly let down by pudding. Who puts whole hazel nuts in crumble? Blech!
Today we paid a flying visit to the Whitwell and Reepham railway to see what Mike and Co have been up to, dropped in to the enormous 'beers of the world' ware house by King's Lynn and then ploughed on home, only arriving at Pickering 30 minutes late! Oops. We hit every queue and got stuck behind every caravan. When I walked in Alex looked up, walked over and handed me a railway magazine then went back to his toys. While it is good to have raised a very independent toddler it would be nice to feel missed!
I bought him back on the train from Pickering due to a lack of child seats, and he has had a fairly happy afternoon. He doesn't seem unsettled or too clingy, so he appears to have managed his little holiday fine.
Tomorrow loads of us are taking the train to Whitby. It could be interesting!
