I screwed up the times for the osteopath, so didn't get to see him. Bugger. Oh well, the evening on the train was fun, and Simon had Alex most of the time he was awake and had me take pictures of them! He also got on the footplate of the Scots Guardsman with Pete Hanson, one of Lib's exs.
The weekend was busy, with 2 weddings on Saturday. We went to the first 1/2 hour of Paul and Laura's reception before heading off to Byland Abbey for Becky and Dom's wedding. I'd assumed it would be in the Abbey Inn, but it was within the ruins of the Abbey, and it was a stunning setting. The humanist ceremony was quite interesting too. I was the only person there from the University, which was odd, but I get on very well with Becky's family, so we ended up talking to her older sister and brother in law (Victoria and Joe in case I need to remember!!), and your never alone with a small baby and lots of broody women around. Alex was very good, either asleep or sociable most of the day, and breast feeding went OK, even if it wasn't very comfortable in the seats I could find. We had to change him on the pillar bases of the old nave, and he did manage to poo on his Dad's pale trousers, but baby wipes got it off!
We stayed on 'til Monday as we had the junior volunteers down, and I nipped into Pickering on the train to bank £1,500 from the various bars we've run. I actually managed to do it on the turn around and get the same train back! When I was coming back a small child sitting opposite looked at Alex in his sling and said to her parents "Dad, whats that little man doing asleep in that bag?"!
On Monday evening Janet and Eric arrived, and they have just left. They have been trying to help, but as they fuss so much and Janet is too polite to say she doesn't like something before you order it and just doesn't eat, they were hard work. I know they were trying to help, but I am knackered and glad they've gone. Janet even handed me Alex to bath with poo all over him as she hadn't cleaned him up properly. She had 2 boys, but she is clearly very out of practice. I just need to work out what strange places they've left everything in now! I was also glad to send them off yesterday morning and go to the NCT coffee morning in peace. They suggested a walk this morning and we ended up shopping in Haxby, my idea of a walk involved countryside, so it wasn't really the pleasant trip out I'd hoped for. I know I'm tired, especially today as Alex slept badly last week, but they've been very exasperating. They know it takes me an hour to feed, then keep trying to serve lunch when I've just started and other such small annoying things. I'm just ungrateful, I know!! It does make me really appreciate Mum.
Alex didn't go on the foot plate on last night's Scarborough Spa, as it was only one of Riley's Black 5s we've had at the railway a lot.
