Lib and I got everything we needed on Friday, but the whole party has now cost me £185. I will be recouping some of that from various relatives and I've also agreed with Dad to write off the excess on the camper van against it, so we are both happy.
Saturday was spent cooking, it took most of the day to bake what we had bought frozen, make sandwiches and sort out the games. We spent a while chatting to Ken and Stella, Mums 1st cousin (Ken) who married one her best friends (Stella), and it was nice to catch up with them. They are another pair who met at Levisham!
Saturday night we ate, inflated balloons and watched Blazing Saddles, then I went to bed as I just couldn't stay awake any longer.
On Sunday Lib and I prepped the crudités, bundled up all the food and Grandma, and set off for Mum and Dads. We re-arranged there already re-arranged house as we needed another table for all the food. We set everything out, and people started to arrive. The decorate your own party hat table was a great success, everyone joined in except Uncle Patrick who looked a little bemused by the whole thing. Apparently hes had enough of silly hats after having Tea with the Queen on Thursday in his Robes of State, miserable sod! I was really pleased that idea, it was a great icebreaker and got everyone in a very silly mood. Simon and David arrived in shorts to the party, pointing out as it was a kids do, they should be in short trousers! Dad then asked why I wasn't dressed as a 6 year old, and I replied that topless, with small shorts, big boots, a large stick and an evil grin may not be appropriate to a party! He did say he recalled me having 1 or 2 pretty frocks!
When everyone had arrived and made their hats we hit the buffet, which was a great success. Lib and I got a lot of compliments on our hard work, which was nice, and everyone seemed impressed. After that a lot of people snook off for an hour to look at either Grandma or Sarah's new house, while those of use who were left played pin the tail on the dog, which much hilarity, sabotage and cheating! Mum also opened her pressies and she loves her new hat, though she couldn't wear it in the house as it was too warm. She also liked her picnic back pack, but it was what she asked for, so she should.
When everyone got back we cut the cake, had tea and played pass the parcel. There were 2 parcels flying round the room, and Patrick looked increasingly bemused whenever he was handed one, so of course they kept coming back to him! Its a shame Jean didn't come, she would have bullied the miserable old sod into joining in! The kids ended up with the slinky spring and the bag of marbles from the parcels, as I suspected they might regardless of who won!
They then discovered the whistles, kazoos, flutes and tubes of bubbles that were on the tables and the whole party got even sillier! All in all I think it was a very successful do, the left over food has been frozen and will be consumed at xmas, and Mum had a great time.
I now have nothing to do until xmas. Yay!
