“You think this is funny?” Arthur snapped but even that wasn’t enough to stop the laughter coming from his friends. He hated them all at that moment and Gwen, Gwen was joining in the action! That was IT. He turned away from them and walked in the opposite direction, towards where he thought his car was parked.

“Arthur!” He wouldn’t even dignify that with a response. “Arthur!” Gwen caught up to him quickly, tugging at his arm to get him to stop but he was in no mood for discussion, so he kept on. “Arthur, stop!” She yanked on his arm, the movement pulling his upper body back while his legs moved forward and the inevitable happened: he slipped and fell onto the hard asphalt. He groaned, his eyes closing instinctively as he hit the ground.

“Arthur?” Gwen was standing over him. “Are you okay?”

“Seriously, Gwen, seriously? No, I’m not okay!” He sighed tiredly. “I’ve been chased by vicious Doberman dogs on my way to dinner with my girlfriend, barely scraping by with my legs intact, only to get there and realize that I have the wrong damn address. By the time I make it to the right address -under the pouring rain, might I add - my phone is dead and the place is closed down. So I’m on the corner trying to revive my phone when I fall into a big-ass rain puddle. That’s the moment you guys choose to step out from wherever the hell you were and stand there laughing at me.”

“Pendragon, c’mon mate, if you had seen your face…” Gwaine’s voice reached his ears and Arthur gritted his teeth.

“Don’t call me ‘mate’, you’re no type of ‘mate’, be it teammate or whatever.”

“Don’t be so cross Arthur, we were just…enjoying the sight.” Merlin cleared his throat loudly, probably to stop laughing and Arthur hated him a little bit more. “Let me help you up.”

“No.”

“Arthur, don’t be an idiot.” Gwen chastised gently and he felt even a bigger fool. “You’ll catch a cold.”

“No. I’m staying right where I am.”

“Okay.” Two seconds later, Gwen was lying on the ground next to him. “How was your day? Sorry I missed your call, I was in meetings all morning and the afternoon was nuts dealing with clients’ phone calls.”

“What are you doing?” That was Gwaine’s question, but he was wondering the same thing.

“What does it look like?” Gwen reached over and grabbed Arthur’s hand. “Apparently, the office will be going through some restructuration, but my department is safe, so we have nothing to worry about.”

Merlin or Gwaine, he couldn’t tell which because he was still looking at Gwen huffed loudly and then Merlin was lying on his other side and Gwaine settled next to Gwen.

“Joanne will probably be leaving the company soon, which is a shame because she’s highly competent, plus she’s not a total opportunist like Liz, so…I’ll be sad to see her go. What?”

Arthur’s mouth lifted up in a half-smirk. “You’re unbelievable, you know that?”

Gwen pursed her lips. “I know; you should appreciate how lucky you are to have me.”

“I do. I love you.” He felt two pair of eyes on him. “You two are just idiots.” Gwen giggled and he joined in this time.
