Magic Under Stone is 75k right now (longest first draft I've ever written by 10k+, phew) and almost done. It's funny, I started this book in January, sent a proposal to my agent in February, set it aside until the offer in March, got back to work, hit the horrible middles in May and agonized until BEA, where I got the Sea and Sky edits, which consumed me until mid-July, plunged back into Magic Under Stone, hitting a few speed bumps along the way, and now? It's almost done! Many times I felt as if this book would never be done. Shows the power of 500-1000 words a day.
I was hoping to knock out the end this week, but alas, at this point I always realize I need to edit what I've got before I can do the end, otherwise I am just too bogged down in thinking about all the problems that still exist earlier along the line. So I'm printing it up now and spending a day with the hard copy, which is always a pleasure. I love working with hard copy, sorry trees.
