Morikami Museum

I'm in West Palm Beach right now, using an unfamiliar computer, so forgive any typos. Also if I owe you an email, I'll get to it Friday, I can't seem to get my email to work from the web at anything but an insanely glacial pace.

Yesterday we went to the Morikami Museum in south Florida. This museum was one of the original inspirations for Magic Under Glass; last time I was there some years back they had an exhibit of antique Japanese automata. This time the exhibits weren't as interesting but it's still a wonderfully serene museum surrounded by gorgeous Japanese gardens that, intrepid folk that we are, we tried to enjoy in the midst of "Tropical Depression 16".

In other words, I had to wring my shoes out when we were done. But I'm not afraifd of a little rain! It was that kind of soaker rain--not too hard, but if you're out in it for an hour, you're soaked. The gardens were abandoned save a couple of grumpy looking, heavily ponchoed people hustling their way through as if trying to check the museum off a vacation list. It was really lovely. The empty gardens, I mean. Not the hustling ponchos.

Then we went to Tate's Comics, a highly impressive comic store...graphic novels galore, comics, action figures, manga, Japanese snacks, designer toys and artwork, Urban Outfitters-esque pop culture books and items... Amazing place to browse. Very NYC/L.A. kind of store. I spent too much money... -_-;;

This rambling blog post brought to you by a new motto that I'm going to try and blog something dumb every day. I kind of miss casual blogging... Nowadays I feel more pressure to be interesting and I end up only posting a few big posts a month at my pro blog, which is fine except I'm not even sure those posts are interesting either. I'm definitely keeping that up but I think I might try blogging more diary-ish over here and just talk about my day.

Yeesh. Social media has gotten so complicated, hasn't it?
