Somewhere in the Preserve, Sunday Afternoon
The week had been...complicated. Yes, Adora thought complicated was a fitting word. Of course, she had also had a lot of fun during the week, even if she had missed Spirit desperately.
After dropping her bag in the dorm, she'd headed down to the stables at a run to see how Spirit had fared alone. During their long walk through the preserve Adora shared the story of her vacation with her oldest friend, conveniently leaving out all mention of the She-Ra factor.
Spirit snuffled low, knowing she was keeping something from him, "What aren't you saying, Adora?"
"It's nothing, Spirit. I'm just feeling a little confused about who I am here."
Thinking this explained why he had randomly transformed into Swift Wind during her trip, Spirit felt he understood a little of what she meant. He snorted, checking the air for the scent of lurking squirrels before speaking. "Because of She-Ra?"
"No."
She paused when he blinked at her, his eyes knowing better than to trust her tone.
"Yes."
A sigh.
"Oh Spirit, I don't know."
Adora's old friend bumped her shoulder and she turned to hug his neck. "You never had this problem on Etheria," Spirit reminded her.
"Yes, well, She-Ra served a greater purpose on Etheria," Adora replied quietly.
Spirit didn't really like hearing that from Adora. "Do not forget that you are the same person either way, Adora."
"Am I?" Adora wondered. She'd never been one to feel insecure, but She-Ra was making her question herself more than ever.
After a moment's thought, Spirit replied gruffly, "Only Light Hope would know for certain."
Adora nodded, knowing that her rainbow friend would have all the answers. She just wasn't sure she was ready to ask the questions. It was something to consider, at the very least. For now Adora didn't want She-Ra to be a focus. "Come on, Spirit. Let's head back. I think I saw your favorite on the menu for dinner!"
