Writer's Block: Adult Onset

Feb 20, 2009 11:03

Being an adult does not mean growing up or living your life in any particular way. Being an adult is having the maturity and wisdom to know that there's a time and a place for everything. You can still have a lot of fun and play and be very childlike in ways as long as have the ability to know when it is important to behave responsibly and to make important decisions and to provide and care for both yourself and others in your life. I saw this sticker once, "Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult". It's kind of like that.
The age someone can be considered an adult is subjective. A lot of people who are adults in age are actually still behaving and living as children. Some people as young as 14 already have more responsibilities than many adults. I've known 16 year olds who were wiser than 50 year olds in ways. And just because you have a fancy career or a nice house or any other crap does not make you a better or more adult-like person than someone who chooses to live their life in a different way.
