It may seem odd to preface your post with "well, i didn't die" but as those folks who saw me at Darkover can attest, i had a serious allergic attack.......
First of all, we did two things "new" this Darkover.
1.the vet no longer takes boarders, so we boarded Max, our German Shepherd dog, at a new place... which meant driving out of our way about 45 minutes with a dog who gets car sick.
2. we gave two friends a ride to the convention. This meant picking them up in Princeton NJ and driving them down, plus sharing a room with them.
Now since the boarding place was north of us , and so is Princeton, Wayne
whouseknecht ended up driving the car up ...dropping the dog off, and then continuing north to get our friends, THEN turning around and driving south to Maryland. which meant he arrived after being the driver for almost 6 hours...
meanwhile i took the van and drive south to the convention and then begged help to unload
(THANK YOU to everyone who helped me unload! you were much appreciated)
this did mean we started our Darkover a bit later than usual, and a bit more tired....
Now
tovahs had ordered a package of yarn, and it went missing in the mail... i have been trying to re-order it for a while, but the
Fiesta yarn folks apparently are in the middle of buying out ironstone yarns, which means they have been backed up like mad.... i had long delayed yarn overnighted to me (thanks to the Thanksgiving holdiay lack of "mail days" ) so i would get it in time, and managed to get it to her at the convention...
and she surprised me no end by handing me a package of the Chakra imps from
Black Phoenix Alchemy Labs (BPAL for short). so i have my very first BPAL imps. i liked the two i tried on, and ended up accidentally trying on "vortex" which when wet smells, well, a lot like lemon pledge, but not bad after it dries.
we did decently sales wise.
On Saturday i was a bit stuffy, and figured it might be allergies, so i took a 24 hour anti-histamine around dinner.
anyway, the Clam Chowder concert went well (we raised over 5,000 dollars for Children's Hospital), they had a new Zombie song, which i liked. sort of a take off on business man goes zombie... they had heard it at a filk convention.
as we were leaving, my husband wanted to know if they would change their warm up song for the Hallelujah Chorus this year..
???
well they often sing "rose, rose" as a warm up, so of course my husband had to filk it.....
Brains, brains, brains, brains
will i ever see me fed?
you'll be buried at my grill sire,
at my grill....
i tried to pretend i didnt know him. but darn it! it scans... i heard it was sung at pool side.
anyway, after the concert we always go to the pool to sing the "Hallelujah Chorus" and this year was going to be the LAST year we could sing poolside, since the hotel is undergoing major renovations.. and will not have a pool in the atrium anymore :(
so i just wanted to go up to my room and drop off a few things...
and the entire lobby was filled with smoke (i heard a guy was smoking a cigar near the pool)
so i covered my nose and RAN for the elevators..
and two ass hats from the "high school reunion" were smoking at the elevator doors. (they tried to put their smoke sticks out in the trash can, i hear)
so, since i have lethal allergies to that form of nicotine addiction, and i had stupidly left my epi-pen in the hotel room...
(figures, the one time i leave my epi pen, i needed it. let this be a lesson to you all!) i had to run to the other elevator, and get upstairs...
so i got to the room, threw the clothes and dived into a shower to wash the smoke off.. and hubby cut a Benedryl capsule open to get under my tongue, and sat with me until i was absolutely sure i wasnt going to pass out.
by which point he couldnt make it to the pool in time either.
(insert very upset rant about idiots who force their toxic fumes on people who shouldn't breath them)
ok, now remember the 24 hour anti-histamine at 6pm? (which may be why i made it to the room)
followed by the Benedryl dose at 11:30?
riiiiiiiight.
i was zoned the next day. i mean completely out of it falling asleep on my feet zoned.
well
tchipakkan (who has some good herbal and etc knowledge) got me a gallon of water and some vitamin c. i drank a bunch of my B vitamin energy drinks, and we did our best to flush the system.. but we still ended up not thinking it was safe for me to drive until after dinner. remember we came down in two cars? right again.. i had to drive back home solo....
and i was a *btch* during pack down...
i mean worse than usual for a merchant.
so to all the folks who helped me load? thanks. i really appreciate it.
anyway i am home, i got the dog out of hock, he was apparently a good boy for them, and i am now trying to get back into some semblance of a schedule.
summary?
Darkover was fun as usual, Clam Chowder had the usual fund raiser concert, i saw lots of my friends, i was merchanting and didn't get to go to much programming, but i hear it was good. and i didnt die.
and could all the Lj folks i saw at the concert post a "hello" because i couldnt list you all, even though i saw many of you like
