well, when i made the appt for an EMG i TOLD them that if they got an opening earlier than my scheduled appt to pls call me. i would totally not mind.
they did
so i went and got both legs evaluated today.
so....i have had an EMG before. I knew what it meant, i knew it would HURT, and i knew i didnt want one but it would give some concrete answers.
it is my considered opinion that merely having gone through an EMG should be accepted in court as PROF that "something is wrong with you" because if nothing is wrong with you physically there must be a screw loose in you to put up with it.
An EMG means (in laymans terms) that they put sensors on one end of a nerve (like your finger or wrist or ankle) and then fire electricity down the nerve from someplace else like the back of your knee...
basically its line testing for electrical problems. this is obviously something you learn back in med school when they show you how to make dead frogs legs move if you jump start them.
when they are done with THAT part.. they stick a VERY thin long needle in your muscle and have you move the affected part. (i think thats a hold over from the frogs too)
it wouldn't be so bad if they did it once and said "ok" but they hit each nerve area about 3-4 times.
when they did my arm and neck it was so bad i went into dry heaves and convulsions...this wasnt nearly as bad.
apparently the closer you get to the "trunk" nerves the worse it is.. the other time it was my arm and neck (C6 radiculopathy) this time they stayed at and below the knee.
"not nearly as bad" means it MERELY felt like a form of torture they might use to get me to confess to witchcraft, which i should be able to withstand, if they stop soon. (the previous time i would have confessed to the Lindburgh baby kidnapping, and shooting both Kennedies to make them stop)
when the doctor started he tried to warn me and i told him i had been through one and i hoped it wouldnt hurt as bad.
you know its bad when the DOCTOR says "well....no guarantees, but i will try"
after he shocked my leg the first time he asked if i felt that. i said yes.. he hit me again so i went OW. he was apparently just calibrating the OW level.. or something.
(for the record it FELT like i was being hit with a very thin wire whip or flail that was electrified... and i HATE stingy pain. i can deal with "thuddy" pain.)
he hit me about a dozen more times and asked me if i was ok? (he sounded sort of panicked... apparently the fact that i didnt say anything made him wonder if i had passed out)
i told him i had a high pain tolerance
he said
"ummm.. yes... you do..you sure do"
every few minutes he stooped and made sure i was still conscious. he seemed relieved when he hit spots that made me jerk like a frog, at least he knew i was awake i guess...
the needle insertion apparently didnt do so well, plus psychologically it wasnt easy on me either) but he got his results...
he called me a very good patient and said i had been REALLY good.. and that they got good readings.
i THINK i scared him.
so i go back to the neurologist right after finals and find out the results of that plus the blood work up and HOPEFULLY they have some answers....
