as you all know, our dog Max had to be put to sleep recently.
what you may not know is that my depression worsened immensely, and wayne went down hill incredibly hard.. every time we looked around the house was so EMPTY.. (yes even with the cats)
combine that with the fact that the neighborhood is not safe, and even though Max wouldnt bite ANYONE he was big, and people were scared of him....
and the fact that wayne, especially not working, needed a good reason to get up, and go outside every day. (walking, he needs to do walking a LOT more)
so, we very rapidly decided we would get a dog. another rescue of course.
we thought it out carefully and much to my surprise wayne thought he might like a small to medium sized Pit Bull cross. (sweet dogs, pitties)..a nice smallish dog, maybe 40-50 pounds like our first dog together.. something we could handle, lift if need be....
well we went to the PSPCA shelter since they were open.
you know.. just to look....
(Y'all can stop laughing now)
we did not get a small pit bull cross.
we got the most IRRATIONAL, unrealistic choice of dogs. An incredible, beautiful, sweet, sad, doggie named "Bella"....
three dogs (and Bella's puppies) had been brought in seized from a drug dealer. all fighting or related breeds, all big, most with the ears choped off....(Bella's ears are mere nubs)
all finally were adopted.
but Bella was returned.. too big, and she had had a bout of diarrhea (big dog? BIG mess when that happens) so here she was without her puppies, her other dogs, back in the shelter, depressed.. not eating well... sad, sad, sad doggie.
very gentle, very calm...
yeah.. you know me and big dogs.
so, we will be cleaning to try to reduce the odds she will go piddle inside (remember Max had been incontinent for a while) and set up Max's old kennel, and try to get the place ready for her. We pick her up tomorrow....
she will be getting her own facebook and LJ page (she does now:
bella_cash )because to be BLUNTLY honest, she will need some support. Max was 80 pounds of German Shepherd Dog, and he wasnt cheap. This is 120 pounds (or she should be, she is underweight) of Caucas shephard, who will probably need extra care due to the abuse in her background.
not many people are prepared to actually adopt a really big dog. Especially an adult... and an abuse survivor....
we have the leashes, big bowls, kennel she can actually fit in, the works... but we are on a much more limited income now.
but how could i say no?
