so how was the faire?

Midsummer renaissance fair ( www.midsummerproductions.com ) actually went better this year than i expected.
its ALWAYS a good show, but the advertising needs to be better , so we get enough people. its been a chronic problem, people not knowing about us till its all over..and of course they forget by next year.
THIS year we had a local newspaper cover one of our acts the first weekend, and we made front page/top of fold with a picture in the local paper....
that helped our second weekend no end.

(cut for length. babble about belly dancers, rain, the show, and babies, plus money)

now we could have done without the tornado warnings/watch first weekend, but we managed... and the rain on sunday? oh no fun.. what impressed ME was that some of the patrons were having such a good time that they stayed right through the rain storm! both of them! (rain storms, i mean)

you know an act is good when the mundane customers are sitting out in the pouring rain to watch it. well we had customers out in teh pouring rain for several of the courts, and several of teh acts on Sunday, including the belly dancer.

Our bellydancer, Safira, who as i have said is really scarily good...... well her first dance was all veils, and her .. third?fourth? was with one of the extra long fabric fans, you know. silk veil material?
it was raining on sunday.. remember?
by the middle of her first dance the veils were soaked...
by the time she picked up the fan in her third or fourth dance, it was not merely soaked, it was sodden.
i am incredibly impressed that she managed to improv dancing WITH the soaked veils and veil fan, without missing so much as a hip shimmy.

one of the founders became a new dad just recently... as you may remember.
one of the other founders , well. his lady was working the fair and gate first weekend, and she was due.. saturday.
she had the baby friday!!!!! and showed up on sunday to everyone's "OMG its a BABY!! its so cute!!" as you may imagine two day old baby tends to upstage everyone.

i was having some congestion, which i think is just wet/mold/allergies, but in case it was a cold i didnt get too close, but as usual she (baby) had all squishy face.... teh cute, its why you dont kill them when they wake you up at 3 am.

(my dog isnt that cute, thats why he only gets to wake me up at 5:30)

so anyway, attendance at the second weekend was, as usual, much better than the first. word of mouth plus people finally knowing we were here.. and then add in the news paper article.
we just HAVE to get more advertising out, because if we had had this attendance first weekend it would have been a much better event.

and i wire wrapped my first key, btw.
everyone liked it they said, but no one bought it.. ah well, its not a very "standard" looking decorated key.....
and it was only finished on saturday second weekend, late.
pictures sometime i guess....

money could definitely have been better, sadly.

but on the plus side, i got permission to leave my pavillion up this week, because there is an SCA event there in the coming weekend.. so i didnt have to take down wet canvas just to drag it back up.
