Time once again for a rousing game of "interesting family stories, apropos of nothing".
if you have an interesting family legend, story (or just some story you havent had a good opportunity to post) consider this being tagged, and go forth and post!
i have several, but it occurs to me that you havent heard this one.
My parents knew the Grateful Dead before they were famous
According to my mom, back before i was born and maybe just after, there was this band that practiced in the church basement by arrangement. as my mom was the only hearing person there (dad is a deaf minister, and a minister TO the deaf) the rest of the congregation, if they were there during practice, only noticed the vibrations occasionally. They were apparently "very nice, polite boys".
mom said they sounded pretty decent, for rehearsals.
The church looked out over a graveyard, and mother always figured they took the name "Grateful Dead" from that... apparently at one point one of the band members said they took the name from being "Grateful" for the practice space.....(of course you might say that when someone is giving you free coffee)
sadly, this never got me even one free Grateful Dead concert ticket.
