in an amazing proof that there are people who know less about computers than i do, i tested out of "computer science I" aka, how to use Word. (ok, i had to get an over ride because my score was marginal, but still...) one less course between me and graduation, WOOT!
i had the class / teacher i had been looking forward to today. Emil De John. the class is foundations of portfolio, or something like that...... lets call it "boot camp for Fashion" and be done with it.
OMG... just OMG!
OH
MY
GAWD
when i grow up i want to BE him..... only, uh.... you know, a girl.
i had heard about him of course, he is one of the reasons i WENT to this school, but..... but... wow.
He has worked with EVERYONE in the industry, (and still does). This is the guy who CAN hand in a personal recomendation that you get your internship with Oscar De La Renta, to the person who will be hiring you...whom he has on his speed dial.
in addition to teaching the INCREDIBLY LUCKY students, who frankly should be incredibly glad he is even willing to TALK to them much less be a friendly happy guy who will actually look at our scribbles and help with our portfolio..... oh, where was i.....?
oh
right...
in addition to teaching classes, and sponsoring people for internships... he has a free "club". it meets every Tuesday early afternoon..... and he has people from the industry come down and talk about life in the industry, jobs, etc.
people like the production head of a major design company, the current designer of a major fashion house, Anna Sui, boutique owners....the photo spread of people who came down, for free, to speak because he asked them to is....incredible.
when i was a kid i bet i wouldn't have understood just what an incredible advantage having this guy as your teacher is.
anyway i found out i COULD test out of comp sci when i ran over to get my schedule changed so i wasn't taking a class on Tuesday afternoon (when Emil's club meets). i had it changed to Friday (just in case) and then ran up, took the test, ran down to get it countersigned, got told i went to the wrong person, ran to a different office, got a sign off on "ok to not take this class" and changed the schedule again...
i will not be taking ANY classes Tuesday afternoon... for the foreseeable future.
and i don't care if this man is teaching "how to make clothing from pop tarts and old beer cans" i will be in any class he teaches that i CAN get into.
