so, i am getting dressed to go to work, and am halfway through panty hose... which i have started wearing for leg support, because i stand all day on concrete

I'm pretty sure they'll understand, given the situation.
One day in 2007 I had to call in to work 'trapped in the house'. Why? First, the buses weren't running on my route because there's a steep hill a block away, and we'd had a nasty bit of snow and ice. Then, my neighbors' house burned down in the middle of the night (long story, see 1/12/07ish on my LJ), and that morning the fire department still had the street blocked off, and I couldn't have gotten out if I'd wanted to because they still had equipment in my driveway.
So, yeah. Circumstances out of your control, really. And if they don't believe you, tell them to turn on the news.
We get bomb threats at least once a month at my building in DC. It's typically just someone that should be in a mental hospital who is off their meds and also thinks the building they are calling holds the arc or aliens or the cure to cancer.
"Suspicious Package". Far worse was the massive wreck at the corner of Constitution and 14th this morning. The two main interstate + bridge combos to get into town from VA are I-395 > 14th St Bridge > 14th St, and I-66 > Roosevelt Bridge > Constitution Ave. In other words, the wreck occurred at the downtown intersection of I-66 and I-395.
they were understandably put out.... but they called in another girl on her day off...... i did get in, but by then she was in, and i talked to my manager and left. i was really in no shape anyway.
and what news? a team of cops raiding the house? they dragged the guy out in handcuffs with a SWAT team last time... it never made the news.
Nothing like that ever makes the news, at least not in our little burbs....the police suppress that stuff as much as possible so the property values don't plumment any more than they already are. We have a woman that lives down the block from us...known drug dealer, known prostitute, had someone buy off her than OD and die in her car outside her house....and she drives a school bus for the district. I can't even begin to wrap my head around that.
And Wayne just had to call the cops earlier on a drunk who was driving down the street in a truck that had obviously hit something large....sparks were flying everywhere....
yea, that was my opinion. between that and the fact that i have something of a cross between agoraphobia and social anxiety.. anything stressful like that REALLY throws me for a loop.
