Falling Snow on Icons
Hey guys. I thought I would share something with you guys!
Since we're doing the secret santa freebies and everyone seems to LOVE the icons with falling snow. (Like the one I'm using) I thought I would share how I make those so you guys can try them also.
I use this texture (it's a .gif so you'll need animation shop or image ready)
I found that in a tutorial a loooong time ago so I have no idea who the original maker is, no credit to me is necessary since I didn't make it.
Open the snow texture in animation shop to have for when you get your icon finished.
Make the icon you want the snow to be on, once you get it how you want it, go in animation shop and copy the first frame of the snow texture, go back to photoshop or paintshop and paste the snow as a new layer on top of your icon and set it to screen 100%. Copy merged and paste into animation shop as a new animation. Go back in paintshop or photoshop and delete the snow and paste the second snow frame. Do that with the next frame and paste it after your first frame, continue that with each frame of the snow texture until you have all the frames completed, then save it.
Warning: Sometimes if you have a lot in the icon the finished icon will be above 40 KB and won't work on Livejournal. The way I fix that is by deleting a frame at the end and one at the beginning so it doesn't look odd then resave it. If it's still too large, delete some more until it will work. Deleting too many makes the snow fall oddly so be careful. :)
