I never made it to Pittsburgh. Jeremy and I tried to hitch but there were no rides. Madeline called Ruby last night and I ended up walking around the house holding up the speaker phone for about 20 minutes, weaving in and out of the party, while Madeline talked about any number of things (including how amazing North Carolina is?) and I got in maybe a few words. But she's got all these great plans, which is exciting because she's on such adventures right now. I just kept saying "--I know I made the wrong decision, tell Kiwi I know I made the wrong decision--". I had to go pick up Kyle downtown and I bumped into two cars on the way, Brian texted me trying to talk about the Convergence and crazy shit and I texted back "I keep hitting people with my car!" and he texted back "You what?!" and then I stopped responding because it wasn't a good idea.
Jeremy and I went to California for a few days last week. We stayed two nights at his cousin's place in Eureka. It was rad, they live on a bay and yet they still recycle all their greywater. All the stories about Humboldt County are true, btw. We drove through the Avenue of the Giants and ran around in the redwoods. Arya straight lost her mind, she was bringing back dead logs four times her size for us to throw. We would, and she'd bring them back. It was absurd. Then we went up to Happy Camp, up near the Oregon border, and stayed at this compound/homestead in the woods. They had a huge garden and a path down to the creek where they keep the goat milk cold. We went with Kyle to take the goats out walking in the valley (dried riverbed). I was a little surprised at how much they resemble dogs in their behavior. I was glad I didn't live there, because I didn't have to stop myself from becoming fond of the goats. You don't want to become fond of something you're later going to butcher and eat, right? We hiked around the woods a lot and swam in the river and smoked in the back and it was a nice two days. The people who live there were all really rad, and this old trainhopper dude they know was passing through. There were a lot of rad stories. It was nice even just to go two days without ever knowing what time it was, and having my phone turned off in my car. Kyle decided to ride back to Reno with us to stay for awhile which was cool, made the drive back a lot easier.
I can't believe July's almost over. This summer's been radasfuck but I'm going to have to start dealing with the fact that it will end.
