The thing about Pete was that the hoodies were less of a fashion statement and more that he was cold all the time, even in the middle of summer. His parents thought he was sick when he pulled a sweater on the first time. They rushed him to his doctor, who said he was fine.

“But he’s cold all the time!” Mrs. Wentz cried. “That’s not normal if he’s okay.”

The doctor stared at Pete, who stared back. He just wanted to go back home and play with his toys. Doctors were evil unless they were giving out candy, and even then Pete thought they were up to something.

The doctor checked Pete over again and took some of Pete’s blood. He said he would call with the results. Mr. and Mrs. Wentz nodded gratefully and took Pete home.

When the doctor called a week later and said Pete was fine, they looked at Pete, who was curled up in a ball shivering even though it was 98 degrees. They asked for a specialist and were referred to a child psychologist.

Therapy lasted for about two weeks, before Pete had enough. He kicked the psychologist and yelled, “No one touched me bad, all right! Get over it! I’m just cold!”

Suffice to say, Mr. and Mrs. Wentz were not happy with the psychologist. They just bought Pete more sweaters and hoodies.

The thing about Patrick was that he was hot all the time. No matter the season, he ended up dripping with sweat. Once, he even sweat while sitting on the couch watching TV. He hadn’t even changed the channel.

His mom worried about him and took him to a doctor. The doctor said he was just a growing boy and that his hormones were acting up.

Patrick was thrilled with the growing part, but once he found out he wasn’t literally growing, he was kind of pissed off. He hated being short.

He used to wear shorts and one shirt all the time, but as he got older, he got more self-conscious and layered his clothes on. At times it was unbearable, but Patrick would rather be sweaty than made fun of.

When Patrick first met Pete, after Pete made fun of his clothes, and after Patrick sang for him, Pete hugged him tight and didn’t let go.

Patrick shifted as he tried to pry Pete off. “Dude, seriously, get off of me.”

“You’re so warm,” Pete mumbled into his skin.

Patrick growled. “Are you making fun of me again?”

Pete pulled back and looked Patrick in the eyes. “No way. I’m cold, like, all the time. See? We were meant to be!” He snuggled closer and Patrick sighed in resignation.

He was kind of thrilled though. He never thought anyone like Pete would be clinging to him.

The first time Pete and Patrick kissed was kind of an accident. They had been in the van at the time. Since they only had enough money for one room, Andy and Joe had the room. Andy didn’t want to deal with Pete’s insomnia and Joe was sick.

Pete had on two shirts and a hoodie and was still cold. He made little whimpering noises until Patrick grabbed his arm and pulled him closer.

“Shut up Pete. It’s nearly two am and I need rest,” Patrick said crossly.

“What about me and my needs?” Pete asked sweetly.

Patrick snorted and turned his head towards Pete. “Please. I’m cuddling aren’t I?”

“Yeah.” Pete leaned closer and kissed Patrick’s cheek. Then he kissed Patrick’s lips.

Patrick pulled back in surprise. “What?”

“Yeah.”

“That’s not an answer, Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz III.”

“Ah, man, don’t use my full name. It was just a kiss to show you how much I love you.”

Patrick blinked. “Oh. In that case.” Patrick put his hand on the back of Pete’s neck and kissed him. “I love you too, moron.”

Pete mumbled something, but it was lost against Patrick’s lips.

Pete shivered and pulled his hoodie closer. He hated being cold all the time; it made him think he was sick. He shivered again and curled into a ball on the couch in the lounge area.

Patrick walked in and sighed. “How can you be cold? It’s nearly 100 degrees outside!” Patrick was sweating and wearing as little as he could while still being covered up. When he was on the bus, he even took his hat off.

Pete shrugged. “I don’t know, I just am.” It sucked being cold in the summer, but it was even worse in the winter. He felt he would never be warm again sometimes. Pete pulled his hood over his head and shivered for a third time. He heard Patrick sigh again.

Patrick walked over and pulled Pete up. Pete flailed and nearly hit him in the eye.

“Calm down, I’m just moving us to a more comfortable spot. Jesus Christ.”

“What for?”

“What do you mean ‘what for’? You’re cold aren’t you? It’s so I can warm you up, moron.”

Pete glared. “You could have said so instead of surprising me like that.”

“I was trying to be helpful,” Patrick snapped. He tugged Pete along to the bunks and shoved him into Patrick’s. He yanked off Pete’s shoes and toed off his own. Then Patrick climbed in behind Pete and pulled the curtain shut.

Pete wiggled around until he was facing Patrick. He wormed his arms around Patrick and held him close.

“You are much warmer than a hoodie,” Pete said contentedly.

Patrick huffed and tucked Pete’s head under his chin. “Well, I can’t have my boyfriend and best friend freeze to death because he’s a freak.”

Pete pinched Patrick. “You’re a freak too, being hot all the time.”

Patrick laughed. “That was a lame comeback.”

Pete looked up and smiled. “Yeah, but it made you laugh.”

Patrick grinned back and kissed Pete. “Yeah, yeah, mission accomplished. Now, shut up. We need to sleep and get you warm enough to get on stage.”

Pete smiled back and snuggled closer to Patrick.
