“No Rachel! I’m not staying with you, I just can’t do it anymore! I CANT! I can’t give you what you want because I don’t feel the same. But I’m your friend and I’m not going to do this anymore. Its not fair. It isn’t fair for either of us.” Quinn stood at the opposite end of the classroom, as far away from Rachel as possible, tears streaking down her face. Rachel didn’t want this, she didn’t want Quinn to leave her. But Quinn said they didn’t have another choice. Quinn couldn’t live with Rachel anymore, it wasn’t an option. If they continued to live under the same roof, the would continue to hurt each other.
“But Quinn, surely, there’s a way we could work this out…” Rachel tried, but she knew Quinn wasn’t having it. She was adamant that Rachel had suffered enough, and that the only way to resolve things would be for Quinn to remove herself from the smaller girls life as much as was possible.
“ No. No Rach, I cant do this to you. I wont do it.” Quinn shook her head and started to move to the door. Rachel quickly crossed the class and strongly gripped Quinn’s arm. She was desperate. Rachel couldn’t live without Quinn, she just couldn’t. In fact a world without the blonde seemed unimaginable to her.
“Please Rachel, don’t make this any harder for me.” Quinn stared deep into Rachel’s eyes, trying desperately to make her understand. But Rachel didn’t understand, or maybe it was that she didn’t want to understand. She felt herself drop to the floor when Quinn removed herself from her grasp. Her vision instantly became blurry as tears came crashing down her cheeks. Rachel never stopped crying after that.

Ever since she’d given birth, Quinn had found it extremely difficult to get to sleep. She wasn’t sure why, but she spent hours on end every night, with her eyes open, restlessly tossing and turning. She had had a lot on her mind recently. Giving her daughter up for adoption, was the hardest thing she’d done her whole entire life. To others around her, they thought she was strong and didn’t really care about what happened to Beth. But she wasn’t strong and she did care. Beth was still her baby, her child, who shared her genetics. They would have a bond for life, even if they never met again. Quinn thought about Beth everyday. But she thought about Rachel Berry more.
Quinn was suddenly brought back to the real world by a weird noise. She immediately sat up and listened carefully. It certainly wasn’t coming from anywhere in her room. The noise came again, it sounded kind of like a muffled cry. Quinn got out of bed to go and “inspect”. She opened her door quietly, not wanting to wake the Berry’s up. Creeping down the hallway, Quinn came to a halt when she heard the sound again, this time louder and it came from the room to her right. Rachel’s room. The blonde slowly put her ear against the door, and held it there for a while, listening out for the noise again; she didn’t want to barge into Rachel’s room, waking her up just for nothing. … *sniffle* … *cry* … Yep, it was definitely from Rachel’s room. Quinn pushed down on the door handle, pushing the door open at a snails pace.
Rachel was curled up on her side. Her bed covers had been thrown off the bed. She was wearing a black tank top and blue boy shorts, and her hair was all mussed. Quinn had never seen Rachel when she was sleeping before and she thought the sight before her was the most adorable thing she had ever seen. Quinn smiled at the girl before remembering there was a freaky noise coming from the room when it happened again. Rachel, it turned out, was the source of that noise. Quinn guessed she was having a nightmare. Rachel was crying, and whimpering, and even sniffling a bit too, Quinn just found this even more cute, but thought she’d better relieve Rachel from her bad dream.
Quinn tiptoed across the room and climbed onto Rachel’s bed. She crawled alongside the brunette and lay down next to her. When they were face to face, Quinn stroked Rachel’s cheek and chuckled as the smaller girl stopped frowning and smiled at her touch. Quinn inhaled Rachel’s vanilla-sweet scent before she lightly kissed the girls forehead, effectively waking her up.
At first Rachel thought she must have still been dreaming; waking up to the incredible view of one Quinn Fabray, inches from her face, was an unusual but definitely not unwelcome sight. Quinn instantly smiled, because God Rachel was cute when she was sleepy. The smaller girl blinked a few times to make sure what she was seeing was real, though she was still crying a bit.
“Hey you,” Quinn whispered, brushing a strand of Rachel’s hair behind her ear.
“Judging by the amount of crying, tossing and turning, I’d say you were having a nightmare, but then, I could be wrong.” Rachel grimaced at remembering the nightmare, but looked up at the blonde.
“Yeah, it was...really bad.”
“Mind if I ask what it was about?” Quinn was actually quite curious as to what Rachel was dreaming of, Rachel had said it was bad, but it must have been really dreadful if it had caused Rachel that amount of discomfort.
“Well…” Rachel blushed, she wasn’t really sure if she ought to tell Quinn that she was the main feature of her nightmare. Ah stuff it, she thought, she might as well. Rachel then snuggled into the other girl, resting her head under Quinn’s chin. Quinn felt her stomach flip a little at the contact, but didn’t hesitate at all as she wrapped one arm around the smaller girls waist and another to the back of her neck and started to thread her fingers through Rachel’s hair.
“Well, it’s a pretty long story, or dream rather, but basically you told me we couldn’t be friends anymore and that you had to leave me and move out of the house and that we could never ever see each other again and…yeah, that was it.” Rachel’s crying had slowed up a little, but tears were still trickling down her cheeks. Quinn pulled the trembling girl closer to her, whilst Rachel buried her face into Quinn’s neck. The blonde laughed quietly at Rachel’s answer. She was the reason Rachel had been having an unconscious breakdown?! It was pretty hard to believe, Quinn knew Rachel didn’t feel the same way as she did.
Rachel jerked away from Quinn immediately.
“I knew it! I knew it, I KNEW it!!! I knew you’d laugh at me Quinn, I knew you’d laugh, just like you always do, you laugh and you make fun of me and you-”
“RACH!” Quinn loud-whispered.
“Rachel, Rachel please just stop okay? I’m not laughing at you, I’m laughing because me leaving you and not being friends with you is the cause for your bad dream-tears! I mean really, you never seeing me again would make you cry that much?!” Quinn pulled Rachel back into her arms, and they stared at each other. Rachel blushed, if only Quinn knew…
“Yes, yes Quinn, it r-really would.” Quinn felt her heart skip a beat at those words. The silence between them felt like a perfect eternity, as they lay in each others arms, listening to their shallow breathing, melting into each others bodies and diving into the depths of the others eyes. In reality it was only a few seconds. Quinn softly wiped the last tear from Rachel’s face and slowly leaned in until her nose was touching the smaller girls. Rachel nodded as if to say it was okay. And then they moulded together, lips against lips, tongues against tongues. Both girl’s insides exploded with emotion; they had never felt so incredible in their whole entire lives. The kiss didn‘t last long, but it was full of passion and love. Love that had been hidden for months. Love that went way beyond a school girl crush. Love for one another.
Quinn pulled away, and stared deep into incredible chocolate eyes. Her and Rachel both broke into genuine smiles, admiring each other, revelling in what just happened.
“I love you Quinn” Rachel whispered.
“I love you too Rachel. So, so much.” Quinn stroked the brunettes cheek, wondering why God would ever give her someone as beautiful as Rachel. And Rachel leaned into the touch, sighing happily. The nightmare was a distant event now, long forgotten, as the only dreams that plagued Rachel’s room now were dreams of the future. Quinn and Rachel’s future, their future together.
Rachel turned on her side, so her back was against Quinn’s chest. Quinn shuffled forward, not wanting to be an inch away from her love. She put her arm around Rachel’s waist, hugging her tightly.
“Go to sleep Rach, I’m here now. No more nightmares now. I’m not gonna let anything hurt you, and I will never ever leave you. Ever.” Quinn whispered into Rachel’s ear, but she was already asleep, dreaming of her day tomorrow and how she and Quinn would spend it together.
