No more lectures (for a week, and then winter term starts) !!!

Mucho grading and paper commenting upon

Minor stupidity at work, but much less annoying and stressful than before, praise the Lords of Kobol.

Major preparations: updates for online anthro course, paperwork for NEW course on Black Liberation Theory (all suggestions for books welcome, I am definitely planning on using the reader put together by Leith Mullings and Manning Marable), paper from the conference (I'll post it up here I promise), and papers _still_ in submission that got lost in the shuffle this semester.

The exciting bit: I got a new (last generation) Macbook. Am now $1000 poorer but at least I won't have to wait until I get to work to visit salon.com, or any of the other websites that are only accessible by Safari/Firefox/IE 7 etc. I'm a great fan of using old technology: I'm one of the few people my age who still uses a fountain pen!!! - I know, I know, that's suspiciously close to bow-tie territory but I used to be an archaeologist for god's sake.- but I finally had to give up the struggle on this one. Plus laptops are handy when your FREAKING WORK COMPUTER BREAKS DOWN YET AGAIN. As it did yesterday and most of today as well. Stupid penny-pinching university. It insists on recycling its old hard drives after they plainly are a clear and present danger to good computer use.

Still, I have it on good authority that the administration are still sore about having to give up quill pens and having memoranda hand-illuminated by junior associate vice-co-ordinators chained to desks. Now THAT's bow-tie territory.
