summer journy to new life

Jun 30, 2008 00:31

well, things have certainly been changing for myself. i think i have an idea of what to do next. i need to inject some more awesomeness into life.

for those of you with the book of face, check out my latest note. here's the gist:

Daktronics is not inviting me back to work in Shanghai.

now that sob story is over, here's what i have buzzing in my head:

-try to work in brookings for the next month or so and save some extra money, which may not be possible if daktronics doesn't let me stay in the apt here any longer. i have no where else to go, and i wont be getting an apt of my own.

-in early/mid august, somehow make my way to rapid city to visit my brother..do some camping, hiking, shooting, climbing. greyhound has a bus that takes 6 hours from sioux falls and costs 53 dollars. maybe I could find a ride using rideshare.

-get back to sioux falls by august 15th, attend bob's wedding on august 17th.

-bike from sioux falls to chicago. it's about 575 miles. average 55 miles a day. i might need a new bike. not so sure my dad's panasonic road bike from college will make it. bring a tent, and maybe www.couchsurfing.com will be useful. from chicago to nyc:

chicago to NYC by amtrack - 25 hours, 80 dollars
chicago to nyc by greyhound - 17 hours, 95 dollars
chicago to jfk by jetblue - 2 hours, 160 dollars

once i arrive in ny at the end of august, i will stay at my parent's home in upstate NY for about a month. I'll be with family, and help my dad with all of the many projects he has started - cut down trees and chop wood for firewood for the winter, help build pond, finish deck, finish building basement, etc.

so many things can change before then...bob's wedding is an inconvenience, as it makes me need to be in SD at that time...i'd rather spend 2 more weeks here, then bike to NY, and be finished with the US at the end of august, not September. after this, i'll go to hong kong. start doing freelance work and explore other opportunities. i might travel SE asia before going to hong kong...or after if things don't work out.

i'm determined and hopeful.
