Why You Should Vote For Omar Little, Badass Gay Stickup Man With a Heart of...Well, a Heart, Anyway
So I hear some of you haven't watched The Wire, and therefore have never had the pleasure of meeting this badass mofo right here:
Well, that's a shame, because Omar is one of the most complex, fascinating, heartbreaking, badass, nuanced, and just plain AWESOME characters of all time. I'm not being hyperbolic here, that is the truth.
Why? I will attempt - ATTEMPT - to convey something of his majesty.
He's one of the biggest BAMFs around
"Omar don't scare."
And he doesn't even have special powers or training. Just a shotgun and guts.
"You come at the king, you best not miss."
He has a moral code
"I mean, I do some dirt, too, but I ain't never put my gun on nobody that wasn't in the game."
And he calls other people out on their hypocritical bullshit
"You are feeding off the violence and the despair of the drug trade. You are stealing from those who themselves are stealing the lifeblood from our city. You are a parasite who leeches off the culture of drugs..." "Just like you, man." "Excuse me? What?" "I got the shotgun. You got the briefcase. It's all in the game though, right?"
He's gay
His sexuality does not define his character, but god damn is it not ignored, either.
And his relationships are given emotional value. Look at this heartbreak:
He's hilarious
"That wasn't no attempt murder." "What was it, Mr. Little?" "I shot the boy Mike-Mike in his hind parts, that all."
And philosophical
"Man gotta live what he know, right?"
He surrounds himself with awesome, diverse people
His blind mentor:
His badass lesbian crew:
This dude:
And remember, folks, Omar comes with a presidential seal of approval:
And I don't really feel bad saying it, because The Wire is literally my favorite show of all time -- and I love a LOT of TV. There's just nothing, NOTHING like it. There isn't.

I recently re-watched the whole series, and he's one of those characters who is just so mind blowing it's hard to describe.
